Amanda Batula and Ciara Miller Call Bed-Rotting Their Reset

Before my chat with Summer House stars Amanda Batula and Ciara Miller, I’d never conducted an interview with the talent lounging in bed. But there’s a first time for everything—and honestly, I couldn’t help but envy their coziness as I sat upright in a less-than-ideal kitchen chair. I digress, but the reality star duo caught up with me to dish on their wellness routines and, yes, their love of bed-rotting (the act of spending a lot of time in bed in the name of self-care), on behalf of KIND Snacks—which they swear won’t leave your sheets crumby (speaking from experience). The brand is kicking off the new year with the refreshingly relatable mantra: “No one should have to choose between what’s good and good for you.” (Couldn’t agree more.)

Walk me through your ideal bed-rotting setup, from your go-to bedding to the snacks you have on hand, what you’re wearing—you name it.

Ciara: “I mean, listen: vibes. You have to set the vibes, so we’re talking candles, low, low lighting. We do not need overhead lighting; we need lamps, snacks, skin care and face masks. I just recently got an LED mask, so I’m doing that, and obviously, KIND snacks, for sure.”

Amanda: “I need the comfiest sheets when I’m having a bed-rotting day, so I can just make them dirty with my dead skin cells.”

Do you incorporate any wellness practices, like journaling or meditation into your bed-rotting sessions—or is the vibe more of a Netflix binging sesh?

Amanda: “Something Kyle [Cooke] said he would never do is let us have the TV in the bedroom, and for Christmas this year, he got me a TV for the bedroom. I’m so happy. So I put my little alarm clock on the red light [mode], make it nice and dim, and binge-watch. I have watched every TV show; you name it, and I have probably seen it.”

Ciara: “I don’t have that attention span; I don’t watch TV like that. I didn’t grow up with a TV in my room. Now, I have one in my room, and I don’t even use it; I blame my mother. But I actually just recently started journaling and I think it’s working. Every therapist I’ve ever had was like, ‘You should write this down’ I would be like, ‘You’re so annoying; the last thing I want is homework.’ The last thing I wanna do is use a pen and paper. After I graduated college I was like, ‘I’m done with this. I never need, you know, a spiral notebook.’ But I did start journaling as of like December and I kind of like it. Yesterday, I journaled three pages, and so now I’m trying to incorporate it into my every day, or every other day—as long as I do it once a week.”

Summer House must take a lot out of you—emotionally, physically and mentally. Does bed-rotting double as a way to decompress from the chaos of filming?

Amanda: “I think bed-rotting is a huge decompressant for both of us. I mean, not only do we do it in real-time when we’re at the house, but definitely when we get home, I’m either in the bed or on the couch with my dogs because Kyle does not let dogs in bed, which is something else I’m working on. So, I get my cuddles with the dogs on the couch, which is essentially my second bed.”

Ciara: “People give us so much shit for, like, being in the bed all the time. But no, we’re decompressing; we’re resetting. We’re trying to get our minds right. Like it’s a lot. And we all have the same amount of energy where we’re like, ‘Okay, we gave it our all for 20 minutes. We gotta go recharge.’ And so that’s why we go up, go up to our room and get in the bed.”

Besides bed-rotting, are there any other beauty treatments whether professional or DIY that you guys love and why?

Amanda: “I just started trying to red light mask ’cause I feel like I see that everywhere, so I bought one of those, and I also love any sort of like ice roller, whether it’s glass balls or an actual ice roller on my face.”

Ciara: “Wait, you know what I’m starting to get into, which is kind of controversial because people literally can’t do it without bringing it up in conversation? Cold plunging. I’m literally a new woman in 2025. I am not gonna lie; you feel so good after it. And people literally cannot cold plunge without bringing it up in at least one conversation a day. I’m never gonna be that girl, but time will tell. You asked, so I’m telling you. Cold plunging, guys, honestly, that’s all I’m gonna say. You should try it. It’s extreme. Start with 30 seconds, then go up to a minute, and stay in for two and a half minutes. You’re awake, you’re refreshed and honestly, like if you’re someone who like works out, I feel like your recovery is like shorter. You’re not a sore long for as long.”

Do you have any other favorite lip masks under eye patches, lip mask, anything that you like to use in bed or beyond?

Amanda: “I love the Elemis eye patches. I keep those in my fridge, ’cause again, there’s nothing better than depuffing.”

Ciara: “And the Laneige lip mask.”

Amanda: “I put that on every night before bed.”
