Pam Bondi Tells Senators ‘Partisan Weaponization’ Of Justice Department Will End On Her Watch
Attorney General nominee Pam Bondi said Wednesday that “partisan weaponization” of the DOJ would end under her leadership.
Bondi affirmed her commitment to ensuring there is “one tier of justice” for all during her confirmation hearing.
“If confirmed as United States Attorney General, my overriding objective would be to return the Department of Justice to its core mission of keeping Americans safe and vigorously enforcing the law,” Bondi told the Senate Judiciary Committee. “That requires getting back to basics—prosecuting violent crime and gang activity, stopping child predators and drug traffickers, protecting our nation from terrorists and other foreign threats, and addressing the overwhelming crisis at the Border. The Department of Justice must also return to defending the foundational rights of all Americans, including free speech, free exercise of religion, and the right to bear arms.”

Bondi highlighted President-elect Donald Trump’s “leadership on criminal justice reform,” which she said “demonstrates what is possible when a President is unafraid to do things that have been deemed ‘too difficult’ and to reach across the aisle to bring about real solutions.”

Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Senator Chuck Grassley told Bondi during his opening statement that the changes she makes must ensure weaponization of the DOJ under the Biden administration “never happens again,” highlighting special counsel Jack Smith’s “lawfare” against Trump and the DOJ’s prosecution of pro-life activists as examples.
