Carrie Coon Wore a Lipstick-Over-Bronzer Hack You Have to See

Giving us that end-of-weekend must-watch that society so desperately needs, after two years of waiting, White Lotus is back this coming Sunday—and the hit HBO series is ready to introduce the world to a new cast of morally conflicted guests and staff.

Joining in this season’s mayhem is Carrie Coon, who plays Laurie, part of a trio of close friends visiting Thailand on a girl’s trip. To celebrate the long-awaited return of the series, celebrity makeup artist Mélanie Inglessis created a modernized ‘30s look reminiscent of Cabaret for the premiere in Los Angeles on Monday night.

To offset the dichotomy of the Ralph Lauren tuxedo chosen by stylist Alicia Lombardini and the soft, curly updo created by celebrity hairdresser Eddie Cook, Inglessis created a luminescent complexion for Coon via the G.M. Collin Diamond Cream ($270).

Made with photoluminescent diamond powder, a unique diamond peptide, sodium hyaluronate and konjac root powder, the luxe product provides a “soft focus” effect, plumping and perfecting the skin’s appearance. “Diamond cream is so rich, but it sinks into the skin,” Inglessis says. “It does not stay on top and linger. And it has light reflection because of the diamond inside, so I like to use the Diamond Cream as a base.”

Inglessis applied the G.M. Collin Bota-Peptides Eye Contour ($86) on the eye area to help revitalize the under-eye area, minimizing dark circles, lines and puffiness. “People tend to apply eye cream really close to the eye, but the trick is to actually apply it just above the cheekbone,” says Inglessis. “Using your ring finger, you tap very gently in that area. All creams applied in the eye area will travel naturally, so you don’t want it too close to the eye.”

For the last step of the skin prep, Inglessis applied a generous layer of the FEMMUE Lip Sleeping Mask ($22) to Coon’s lips and left it on until it was time to apply lip color. She then wiped it away and applied the color, which allowed the mask to hydrate without leaving behind a tacky layer. “I feel like many balms can be counterproductive and actually dry out the lips,” Inglessis says. “The FEMMUE Lip Sleeping Mask leaves lips hydrated and plumped.”

For the eyes, Inglessis wanted to create a soft-focus nude that would make Coon’s blue eyes pop. “I went with a soft-brown smoky eye that’s just a soft stain of color on the lid,” she explains. She used Danessa Myricks Colorfix Nudes ($20) in Nude 8, then topped Coon’s lashes with Le Rouge Français Le Bleu Bérénice mascara ($42). The indigo-blue mascara contrasted the brown and helped accentuate the eyes even more.

On the lips, Inglessis chose a soft beige-brown nude, Le Rouge Français Lipstick ($47) in Le Nude Castanea. She then used her fingers to “push” the color into Coon’s lips for a blurry effect. “I wanted it soft because there are no sharp or graphic lines in the look,” says Inglessis. “It was just about having makeup that kind of blends into one. It’s about the beauty that she is, and I didn’t want the makeup to take over.”

To finish the look, Inglessis applied Chanel Bronze Universal ($60) to the cheeks, then pressed the Le Rouge Français Lipstick in Le Nude Castanea on top of the cheekbones to add a subtle sheen and dimension. “I love having the Le Rouge Français Lipstick in my kit,” she says. “I have all the colors. The texture and the color choices are really pretty fantastic. They have a staying power and the pigmentation, but they’re so easy to blend.”
