How to use it

Anastasia Beverly Hills say that this foundation can be used with all skin types and works best with water-based formulas.

For dry skin, they suggest pairing it will a hydrating primer, and for oily skin, to pair it with a mattifying primer.

I tend to apply it over my regular skincare, and don’t find that I need to set it with powder.

You will only need one, maybe two pumps, and it is best to start by applying it to the centre of face and blend outwards.

My Review

When Anastasia Beverly Hills drops a new complexion product, you know it’s time to pay attention! This latest release, the Impeccable Blurring Second Skin Matte Foundation, promises a flawless, weightless finish with a natural matte look. I have put it to the test.

I have to say, I have really been enjoying this foundation. As soon as I saw the demonstration by Nikki Wolf, I knew I was going to get on with it. Although this is a matte foundation, it is really versatile, and depending on how you prep the skin, you can tailor the finish.

I have been using a small amount (one pump) over my normal skincare and I find it really perfecting. It covers any pigmentation and redness, in the thinnest layer, so it never feels heavy or looks cakey. It works beautifully over the new Medik8 Liquid Peptides Advanced MP which I have been using under my moisturiser and SPF for day time. You can read about that in: Medik8 Review: My Top Picks 2025.

Packaging & Formula

The foundation comes in a sleek, frosted glass bottle with a pump dispenser and it feels luxe and high-end. The formula is described as a medium to full coverage, breathable matte finish that works to blur imperfections while maintaining a skin-like appearance.

It’s infused with skin-loving ingredients like hydrating hyaluronic acid and antioxidant-rich botanicals, which always gets me interested. I have combination skin, so a matte foundation that can balance out my skin without clinging to any dryness is always appealing when it comes to longevity.

Application & Finish

I tested this with a brush (my REESON No. 1) as that’s my preferred way to apply foundation. I found that I have to work fairly quickly as the formula starts to set not long after you start to blend it over the skin. And because of this, I’d recommend starting with a small amount of product and working it over the skin quickly in a thin layer. You may find that one pump is all you need.

I use the other end of my brush and take it in to what is left on my hand to use like a concealer (as demonstrated by Nikki) and this actually means I have not needed to use concealer with this formula.

I find that this foundation delivers a brilliant blurring effect that’s great on the areas where I have enlarged pores. It smooths everything out beautifully, with high coverage that still looks skin like.

It really does give the skin an airbrushed look without looking heavy or cakey. The formula melts into the skin and sets down to a natural matte—not flat, but more of a soft-matte radiance.

Wear Test & Longevity

I have been wearing this foundation for full days without setting it with powder and I have to say—I am seriously impressed. For most of the day it is absolutely flawless. No separating, no settling into fine lines. It looks like a second skin.

Later in the day my natural oils start peeking through (I have combination skin), but instead of breaking apart, it looks glowy in the best way. As you know, I don’t mind a bit of glow!

All in all, everything stays in place very well. I even tested it on a very sweaty ride on my Peloton at the end of one day, and it still looked ok!! Just a bit of fading where I had wiped my face, but it did not look bad at all!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Impeccable Foundation shade 2N

What is the shade range like?

ABH has released this foundation in 25 flexible shades. I actually thought that 2N (which is the lightest of my samples) would be too dark for me, but as it settles into the skin, I found that it adapted really well to my skin tone.

What skin type is it good for?

This foundation has been designed to suit all skin types and you can prep your skin to tailor it to your individual skin type. Personally, I’d say this is most suited to those with combination and oily skins. If you’re dry, use a nice rich base underneath.

Do you need to powder it?

I haven’t used powder with this formula at all and it stands up extremely well. I am not averse to a bit of glow, however, if you are oily and prefer a matte finish, then you may want to set it with powder. See how you go!

Is it easy to apply?

I think the key to applying Anastasia Beverly Hills Impeccable Foundation is to use a small amount and to work quickly. It blends out really easily, but it is best to work in thin layers to achieve the finish you want.

What is the coverage like?

The coverage is impressive. It is described as medium to full and I find it covers everything I want it to without needing much product at all.

What is the finish like?

I think what’s really great about the Anastasia Beverly Hills Impeccable Foundation is that, although it is designed to be matte, you can get whatever finish you like depending on how you prep the skin. I use it over my normal skincare and skip powder and get a lovely radiant yet longwearing finish.

Final Verdict

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Impeccable Blurring Second Skin Matte Foundation is an absolute winner in my book. If you love a foundation that gives a flawless yet natural matte finish, blurs texture, and lasts all day without feeling heavy, this is definitely one to check out. It’s a beautiful balance between coverage, comfort, and longevity—perfect for everyday wear and special occasions.
