Proving that sometimes doing things last minute makes for some magic, Cynthia Erivo landed on her Grammys makeup look a mere two hours before the big show.
“Tonight’s look was inspired entirely by Cynthia,” shares celebrity makeup artist Joanna Simkin. “She called me literally two hours before glam and said: ‘What do you think about a fully brown look? Like, including brown lashes?’”
Simkin says that she’s “always into tonal makeup,” and immediately agreed. “I loved that it came together as a last-minute idea that worked so well. She is performing tonight during the Quincy Jones tribute. And tonal browns create a warmth that will carry through to her performance.”
Keeping in stride, Simkin selected a full e.l.f. Cosmetics and e.l.f. SKIN lineup. Some highlights:
For skin, Simkin prepped with Holy Hydration! Thirst Burst Drops ($12), Holy Hydration! Eye Cream ($10), Holy Hydration! Face Cream ($13) and Holy Hydration! Lip Mask ($7) to keep everything nourished and moisturized.
Simkin then primed the skin with Power Grip Primer ($12). The viral product sells one bottle every 3.5 seconds.
After Erivo’s skin was primed, Simkin applied Halo Glow Liquid Filter ($14) all over in shade 6 (Tan/Deep Warm), using the Complexion Duo Brush ($8) for an airbrushed finish. For foundation, it was the viral Soft Glam Foundation ($8) all over in shade 50 (Deep Warm) & 54 (Deep Neutral) for a just-right, medium buildable coverage.
For brightening the under-eye area, Simkin applied 16HR Camo Concealer ($7) in Deep Chestnut, then set the complexion with the new Halo Glow Powder Filter ($14) in Rich Warm. Next up was Camo Liquid Bronzer & Contour ($7) in shade 10 (Rich), which created an extra defined, sculpted look.
Lastly, Simkin gave the high points of the cheeks a luminous pop with Halo Glow Highlight Beauty Wand ($9) in Liquid Gold, then set the look with Power Grip Dewy Setting Spray ($10).
The chocolate-inspired eye secret: Perfect 10 Eyeshadow Palette ($10) in Keep It Ethereal, Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow ($6) in Copper Pop layered on the brow bone and across the lid, and the No Budge Retractable Eyeliner ($5) in Coffee to create an intense and long-lasting look.
