The Rise of the Siren
The explosive dark siren trend has taken over makeup, nails and now, hair! This year’s focus on sea-inspired looks with a dark twist has led to a giant spike in related search terms, including a +695 percent increase in searches for “dark siren makeup.” So, it’s no surprise that this ocean-drenched hairstyle is gaining traction, too. Every dark siren needs a killer hairstyle, and the fresh-from-the-waves look is set to have a major moment.
“This trend will definitely be big this year,” says celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos. “With ’90s and Y2K trends still dominating fashion looks, the wet look fits perfectly into this aesthetic and offers a fresh and statement-making style that’s wearable year-round.”

Updated for 2025, the wet, wavy hair look is focused on providing a low-maintenance look that still delivers on impact.
“The wet look is making a big comeback, especially because it aligns with the trend towards natural, textured hairstyles,” adds celebrity hairstylist and creator of Kim Kimble Hair Collection by HairUWear, Kim Kimble. “People are moving toward more low-maintenance, but stylish looks that don’t require a lot of heat or manipulation. The wet look gives off this effortless yet chic vibe, making it perfect for those who want to feel glamorous without too much fuss. It’s versatile too, you can rock it at the beach, on a night out or even at a formal event!”
High Fashion Alert: Wavy, Wet Hair

“This look is unique because it gives the vibe of effortless wet but actually takes a decent amount of work,” explains master hairstylist and Goldwell national artist, Steven Picciano. “It feels high fashion and understated at the same time. It’s a cross from soft to edgy.”
From the runway to the cover of magazines, this look leverages a couple of major trends to create a stand-out style.
“The wavy, wet look is unique because it combines two trends, effortless, natural waves and a fresh, almost dewy finish,” says Kimble. “It gives the illusion of just coming from the beach or after a shower. This look allows the hair’s texture and natural movement to shine through, creating a vibe that’s chic yet laid-back. The wetness adds a polished, glossy shine that elevates the casual waves.”
This look also strikes a balance between movement and a low amount of volume.
“First, the look has low volume and hugs the head, so I would start with a smoothing creme like Goldwell Style Sign Heat Styling Straightening Balm,” Picciano explains. “This product will protect your hair from heat damage and provide the smooth and sleek base this look needs. Blow dry your hair straight down to decrease any frizz or volume.”
“You’ll want to enhance your waves with a curl cream or diffuser,” Giannetos advises. “Finish with a wet-look gel for that shiny, water-effect, and lock it in with a light mist of hairspray.”
