Andor Season 2 officially has a release window.
Revealed as a part of Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm confirmed the next chapter in Cassian Andor’s story will arrive on Disney+ in August 2024. The studio further confirmed that the creative team behind the show is roughly halfway through production on Season 2. The presentation did not reveal any further details on Andor‘s next arc.
Andor Season 1 debuted on Disney+ in mid-2022 and while many fans were initially skeptical of its premises, attitudes towards the show quickly change. Helmed by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Tony Gilroy, Cassian’s saga earned universal praise from fans and critics alike, with many even describing it as one of the best Star Wars projects ever made. Andor marked a stark change from the franchise’s usual formula and tone, adopting a darker, more cynical look at a universe in chains.
Andor Season 2 Is Learning From Season 1’s Mistakes
While many fans are excited about Andor‘s return, many are cautious that the next installment won’t live up to the excitement of Season 1. In an attempt to reassure enthusiasts, Gilroy noted that the creative team has actively been taking audiences’ feedback into account while producing the next batch of episodes. “Now I know, not just that the series was well received and that people liked it, but I know why they liked it,” Gilroy said. “That’s another tool we have these days through social media. We actually listen to audiences and critics, and we understand what things connected and what didn’t connect.”
The general plot of Andor Season 2 is still shrouded in secrecy but one aspect fans already know is the ending. Gilroy has confirmed that the series will end at the point where Rogue One: A Star Wars Story begins, a movie that results in Cassian’s death as he makes the ultimate sacrifice for his rebellion. Having such a definitive ending proved to be a blessing for Luna, who said he appreciates having a conclusion in mind rather than stretching the narrative. “It is just a two-season show, which is really important for my mental health. But knowing this is the end, I want to enjoy it and get the best out of this experience,” Luna said.
Andor Season 2 does not yet have a solid release date but more information will likely be revealed in the coming months.
