Game of Thrones dominated dramatic television for years, adapting George R.R. Martin’s fantastic and sprawling novels into one of the most successful TV shows of the 21st Century. The fantasy epic captivated audiences with twisting storylines, fantastic action sequences, and a cast of characters that kept viewers hooked for dozens of hours.
The performances of the show’s incredible slate of actors were praised with scores of awards, making both newcomers and classic character actors some of the most sought-after performers in Hollywood. Many of these great actors have worked together before and since, continuing to channel the chemistry that made Game of Thrones shine.
15 Walder Frey, the Hound, and Archmaester Ebrose Lived in Picturesque Sandford
The second film in Edgar Wright’s hilarious Cornetto Trilogy, Hot Fuzz, is an action-packed buddy cop satire that features tons of British acting legends. It follows a hardened London police officer named Nicolas Angel played by Simon Pegg, who is forced into the quiet life of patrolling a small town in the English countryside with his naive new partner, Danny Butterman, played by Nick Frost.
Hot Fuzz features a few Game of Thrones actors in hilariously over-the-top roles, like Jim Broadbent, who played Archmaester Ebrose, as a secretly sinister Police Inspector. This also includes David Bradley (aka Walder Frey) as an unintelligible farmer with a huge collection of firearms and Rory McCann (aka the Hound) as a simple-minded henchman who can only say one word.
14 Starks and Snows Appeared in This Video Game Adaptation
Back in the early days of Game of Thrones airing on HBO, when audiences still thought Ned Stark was Jon Snow’s biological father, the two actors worked together on an entirely different project.Silent Hill: Revelation is the sequel to the 2006 Silent Hill film, an adaptation of the classic horror video game franchise that follows a father and daughter who are on the run from mysterious forces.

As in Game of Thrones, Sean Bean plays Harry Mason, a protective father who is looking to keep his adopted daughter Heather safe from a cult called The Order. Kit Harington plays Vincent Smith, a young member of The Order who disobeys them to protect Bean’s daughter, escaping the evil Silent Hill town with her at the end of the film. Perhaps in the S ilent Hill universe, Vincent and Heather will get hitched and Harrington and Bean will be fictional father and son for real.
13 Davos Seaworth and Sandor Clegane Shared the Screen With Gods
A remake of the classic 1981 movie of the same name, Clash of the Titans is an action-adventure based loosely on the mythological Greek story of Perseus. In Greek Mythology, before Hercules came along, Perseus was the most legendary monster slayer around, beheading Medusa and defeating the sea monster Cetus.
Sam Worthington plays Perseus in the film, a demigod son of Zeus who ends up caught in the middle of a conflict with Ralph Fiennes’s Hades. He meets many allies on his journey to battle the Gods, two of whom have appeared in Game of Thrones. The Onion Knight (Liam Cunningham) and the Hound (Rory McCann) appear respectively as Solon and Belo, soldiers from the ancient city of Argos who accompany Perseus on his quest.
12 The King in the North and the Merchant Prince of Qarth Were Best Friends in a Disney Remake
Though their characters lived on different continents on Game of Thrones, Richard Madden, who played Robb Stark, and Nonso Anozie, who played Xaro Xhoan Daxos, were close friends in the remake of Cinderella. The 2015 film is one of the first in the recent tradition of Disney remaking their animated classics into live-action, something that has become incredibly successful for Disney at the box office.
Cinderella follows the titular princess as she tries to escape the domineering grasp of her step-family and becomes embroiled in the politics of the kingdom when she finds love with Madden’s charming Prince Kit. Kit is often aided by his close confidant, The Captain of the Guards, played by the delightfully sarcastic Anozie.
11 Lannisters and Starks Fend off Video Game Villains in This Adam Sandler Comedy
Pixels, a goofy Adam Sandler comedy about a haphazard group of former arcade champions, features two major stars from Game of Thrones. The movie follows Adam Sander as Sam Brenner, who is called in by his childhood friend and current President of the United States to fend off alien invaders that have taken the form of classic video game characters.
Peter Dinklage, formerly Tyrion Lannister, plays Brenner’s old rival, Eddie “The Fireblaster” Plant, who is based on now disgraced video game champion Billy Mitchell. Sean Bean also appears in the film, playing a Corporal in the British Special Air Services who, unlike Eddard Stark, survives the film.
10 Game of Thrones Actors Appear Together in the Maze Runner Sequels
The Maze Runner series came at the tail end of the young-adult dystopian novel adaptation trend, which saw popular YA stories about young people fighting back against repressive governments hitting the big screen almost every year. The Maze Runner films followed a group of young men called The Gladers, who are forced to live in a maze as part of scientific experiments to cure a worldwide disease.
Later installments in the series featured a host of Game of Thrones icons, including Aidan Gillen in a Littlefinger-adjacent villainous role and Thomas Brodie-Sangster (who played the greenseer Jojen) as one of the Gladers. Nathalie Emmanuel, who played interpreter and confidant Missandei, also appeared in Maze Runner as Harriet, a freedom fighter who helps resist the sinister WCKD (World Catastrophe Killzone Department).
9 The Three-Eyed Raven and King Robert Are Featured in Ridley Scott’s Epic Adaptation
Before he was the leader of Robert’s Rebellion and sovereign of the Seven Kingdoms, Mark Addy played a classic character in Ridley Scott’s adaptation of the Robin Hood legend. Scott’s version of the tale follows Russell Crowe as Robin Longstride, an archer in King Richard the Lionhart’s military who deserts the army and begins fighting for the good of the common people.

It’s one of the greatest fantasy epics ever. However, sometimes Game of Thrones was just plain scary.
Mark Addy plays nearly the opposite character to Robert Baratheon in the film with his role as Friar Tuck, a character dating back to the 15th Century who often aids Robin Hood in the fight against oppressive rulers. Addy isn’t the only Game of Thrones actor to appear in the movie, however. Max Von Sydow, who played the Three-eyed Raven, also appears in Scott’s film as Sir Walter Loxley, who looks after Maid Marian at his estate.
8 Cersei Lannister and the High Sparrow Squared off Before Game of Thrones
In later seasons of Game of Thrones, Lena Headey as Queen Mother Cersei Lannister and Jonathan Pryce as The High Sparrow battled for control over both the people of King’s Landing and the young, impressionable King Tommen Baratheon. Their rivalry ended in a fierce wildfire explosion orchestrated by Cersei, but this wasn’t the first time the two were at odds on screen.
Terry Gilliam’s The Brothers Grimm saw the titular brothers and literary icons re-imagined as traveling con men who masqueraded as monster hunters, but accidentally stumbled upon a real curse. Headey stars in the film as Angelika, a huntress trying to save her father turned werewolf, and Pryce plays General Vavarin Delatombe, a villainous military commander who tries to burn the forest down and kill the Grimm brothers.

7 Daenerys Targaryen Falls in Love With Tywin Lannister’s Son in This Romantic Drama
Emilia Clarke playing Khaleesi Daenerys Targaryen and Charles Dance as prickly Lord Tywin Lannister never actually meet over the course of Game of Thrones, but they have a rivalry that crosses straight over the Narrow Sea. The Breaker of Chains spends much of the series attempting to cross the ocean with her army of Dothraki in order to retake the Iron Throne, something that Tywin has been trying to hang onto with money and influence since long before the show even starts.
However, the two actually do meet in Me Before You, the film adaptation of the first in author Jojo Moyes’s trilogy of tragic romance novels. Clarke plays a caretaker named Lou who falls in love with Will, the man she has been hired to take care of, and Dance plays Will’s father, Steven, who approves of Will’s decision to go to Switzerland for assisted suicide.
6 Lannister Father and Daughter Appear in This Jane Austin Parody Film
As father and daughter on Game of Thrones, Lena Headey and Charles Dance clashed quite often over the role that Cersei Lannister had in running the Seven Kingdoms. Dance as Tywin continually asserted that her power lay only in her ability to marry and birth children.

Game of Thrones had many characters who were part of major moments and, as a result, were likely villains in disguise the whole time.
After Tywin met his demise at the hands of his son, the two met again in a different kind of literary adaptation: an action comedy movie version of Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Dance plays a version of the patriarchal Mr. Bennet, who in this retelling trains his daughters in martial arts to fight off zombies, and Headey plays an eye-patch-wearing version of Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
5 Game of Thrones Actors Are All Over J.K. Rowling’s Series
The Wizarding World of the Harry Potter series has dominated box office numbers, book sales, and the hearts of millennials around the world for more than 20 years, captivating readers and viewers with an incredibly rich world of magic and mystery. Since practically every major British character actor around was in at least one of the eight main Potter films, it’s no wonder that there is a ton of crossover between Hogwarts and Westeros.
There are tons of actors who appear in both franchises, but some highlights across the series include Jim Broadbent (Archmaester Ebrose) as bumbling Professor Horace Slughorn, David Bradley (Walder Frey) as crotchety custodian Argus Filch, and Natalia Tena (Osha) as shape-shifting hero Nymphadora Tonks. There’s also a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo by Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark) as Hermione’s mom at the beginning of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.
The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise reinvented the classic swashbuckling blockbuster films of the 1950s, which would typically star conventionally attractive and valiant hero types, by adapting a theme park ride into a movie about a pirate hero who acts more like Keith Richards than Burt Lancaster. Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow became an instantly iconic symbol of early 2000s blockbuster filmmaking and sparked a franchise spanning five films.
A couple of Game of Thrones actors made appearances in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the first film in the franchise that follows Jack on his journey to take back his old ship. The High Sparrow Jonathan Pryce plays Weatherby Swann, a governor in the town of Port Royal, and Mackenzie Crook, who played the wildling Warg Orell in Game of Thrones, plays a bumbling pirate named Ragetti who ends up with a fork in his wooden eye.
3 Jon Snow and the Pirate Malko Are Gladiators in a Doomed City
Paul W.S. Anderson, who helmed Alien vs. Predator and the Resident Evil movie franchise took a swing at a historical disaster film with Pompeii, a fictionalized recreation of the infamous eruption of Mount Vesuvius during the height of the Roman Empire. The film follows Kit Harrington as a gladiator named Milo who falls in love with Emily Browning’s Cassia, the daughter of the governor of Pompeii.
Milo falls into a similar character archetype as Jon Snow, a stoic warrior who falls hopelessly in love with women in ways that only end in tragedy. Milo also enters into a rivalry with another gladiator named Atticus, played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who eagle-eyed Game of Thrones fans will recognize as Malko, the captain of a slaving ship who brings Jorah Mormont and Tyrion Lannister to Meereen.
2 Margaery Tyrell and Brienne of Tarth Lived in Panem
Suzanne Collins’s Hunger Games series, set in a fictional country called Panem that forces members of each of its districts to compete in tournaments to the death, was an incredibly captivating look at a dystopian future where the government controls its people through fear disguised as entertainment. The series follows Jennifer Lawrence as the headstrong and capable Katniss Everdeen, who starts a revolution when she wins the games against all odds and shows the people of Panem what resistance can look like.
The last entry in the film series, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, features a couple of Game of Thrones favorites as supporters of Katniss’s rebellion against the totalitarian Capital. Gwendoline Christie, who played Brienne of Tarth, plays Commander Lyme, a former Hunger Games victor who now helps lead the resistance from District 2, and Natalie Dormer, who played Margaery Tyrell, plays a rebellious film director named Cressida.

1 Many Game of Thrones Actors Are in Star Wars
It is no wonder that the franchise that likely has the most Game of Thrones actors is the one that spans a galaxy far, far, away. Star Wars has been a cultural mainstay for almost 50 years, with an expansive world of films, television shows, video games, novels, comics and more that give it one of the richest universes in modern fiction.
There are way too many crossover appearances to mention, but some of the most memorable include Julian Glover (Maester Pycelle) as Imperial soldier Maximilian Veers in Empire Strikes Back, Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) as Captain Phasma in The Force Awakens, and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) as Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story. And of course, there is former Dornish Prince Oberyn Martell (aka Pedro Pascal) as Mandalorian bounty hunter turned space dad Din Djarin.
