It’s 2024, and Halloween promises to bring with it a very dark night. A bell that’s been rung every day since the 1870s will once more announce the closing hour for the Nasdaq stock market exchange. It’s a momentous occasion despite being a daily occurrence. Celebrities, sports superstars, titans of industry, and Tom Hanks have all rung that bell. On this special night, though, it’s Art The Clown’s turn. Yes, Terrifier’s very own chainsaw-wielding murder clown is ringing the Nasdaq bell on Halloween night (well, 4:00pm EST), right in the heart of New York City: Times Square, at the Nasdaq MarketSite.
What a time to be a horror fan, eh? Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 not only made waves by slaying Joker 2 at the box office (though if Art had his way, said slaying would’ve involved driving a chainsaw up Joker’s ass until he ran out of fuel), now he’s ringing the Nasdaq bell as part of Cineverse’s visit to the site.
To say this is a unique event undersells the entire thing. Iconic slashers never get the chance to be involved in public gatherings such as these. Art isn’t a cuddly PG-rated horror monster, nor is he derived from a known legend that anyone can sanitize for mass consumption. He’s a very violent and gleefully cruel killer that has some of the most shocking on-screen kills in horror cinema history. That he can add his name to the countless celebrities that have rung the bell before him speaks to how the towering presence Art has in pop culture.
Terrifier 3 has become the highest grossing unrated movie of all time with a worldwide box office of 50 million dollars. Early Halloween parties and gatherings see both adults and little kids dressed as Art. The clown even has a new video game coming out. Simply put, Art the Clown is a cultural phenomenon. The ringing of the bell on Halloween is just further confirmation of this. Also, don’t be surprised if this somehow gets turned into a kill sequence in Terrifier 4.
