Summer Reading Challenge: Read the Rainbow

Want to have some fun with your summer reading? Join the best Summer Reading Challenge and read through the rainbow this summer!

As you probably know, Booklist Queen’s annual Reading Challenge has become something of a tradition. With 52 prompts, it’s not for the faint of heart, though I always encourage readers to modify the challenge to better fit their reading lives.

Although I love the 2024 Reading Challenge, I wanted to also offer something a little less intense and a little more fun. Enter the Booklist Queen Summer Reading Challenge.

This summer, let’s try to read the rainbow. That’s right, I want you to read books in all different colors. You’ve got your standard ROYGBIV – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple. And just for fun, I decided to throw in black and white, too.

The best part of the reading challenge! It’s not limited to adults. You can do it with your kids, your grandkids, or your book club. The sky’s the limit!

I’ve included graphics for the various social media platforms. Be sure to tag me @booklistqueen or use the hashtag #blqsummerreadingchallenge when posting. And, exclusively for my newsletter subscribers, I also have a printable pdf version to hang on your fridge.

So have fun reading the rainbow this summer … and every other summer, because this summer reading challenge will never go out of fashion!

The Rules

Okay, I know you want to know the rules, but I’m not very strict when it comes to challenges. However, since I get a million questions every year, here are some guidelines.

Objective: Read one book in each color
Dates: Memorial Day – Labor Day
Prize: A little bit of pride and a sense of accomplishment

Honestly, the Summer Reading Challenge is meant to be much more chill and just a fun little side project. I like that you can incorporate it with the larger 2024 Reading Challenge, but you don’t have to.

My advice: take it and have fun with it. If it’s not fun, then it’s not worth your time!
