Red Crescent team saves Asian pilgrim after his heart stopped while performing Umrah

MAKKAH — A medical team from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority has succeeded in saving an Asian pilgrim after his heart stopped while performing Umrah at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.

Dr. Yousef Al-Sofyan, spokesman of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority for the Hajj season of 2024, said that the authority’s command and control room received an information at 2:22 a.m. on Sunday about the case of a pilgrim who fainted after suffering from heart attack while performing sa’i, a ritual of Umrah, at mas’a (area for the ritual of sa’i between Safa and Marwa).

Upon the arrival of the medical ambulance team, it was found that there was a man in his 70s, who was lying on the ground unconscious and was unable to breathing. “The ambulance team immediately took care of the case according to the medical protocol followed in such cases. The team made a rapid intervention and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through the resuscitation device until the pulse returned to the normal state,” Dr. Al-Sofyan said adding, the pilgrim was immediately transferred to the Haram Emergency Health Center 3 where the healthcare procedures for him were completed.
