RIYADH — The 46th session of the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League (MWL), led by Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh, has met to address several critical issues affecting the Islamic world.
Representatives from Muslim communities globally and religious minority groups discussed seven key topics, including the unity of the Islamic Ummah, the conflict in Gaza, disruptions in Red Sea navigation, the crisis in Sudan, Islamophobia, and the desecration of religious symbols.
In his opening remarks, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz emphasized Saudi Arabia’s role and efforts under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince in supporting Muslims worldwide. He highlighted the Kingdom’s initiatives to alleviate suffering, provide relief, and promote unity among Muslims.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL, acknowledged the significant strides made in updating the MWL’s bylaws to reflect its status as an international organization.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, President of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, praised the session’s focus on global peace and harmony, underscoring the importance of interfaith dialogue.
The session also saw international praise, with figures like Egypt’s Minister of Awqaf Muhammad Mukhtar Gomaa Mabrouk and President of Religious Affairs in Türkiye, Ali Erbaş, commending the MWL’s role in fostering global peace and its efforts under Saudi leadership.
The Supreme Council, composed of 65 distinguished Islamic figures, oversees the MWL’s strategic direction and the implementation of its global initiatives, striving to address the pressing issues faced by Muslims and promoting the principles of moderation and balance across the world.
