Al-Bassami: Security forces won’t allow drug smugglers to target Saudi youth or undermine national security

Saudi Gazette report

RIYADHDirector of Public Security Lt. Gen. Mohammad Al-Bassami reiterated the resolve of the Saudi security forces to prevent drug smugglers and dealers from targeting Saudi youth or compromising national security.

In a statement issued on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which falls on June 26, Al-Bassami called on all segments of society to remain vigilant and aware of the dangers posed by the scourge of drugs. He also sought support of the public for the government’s efforts against drugs and contribute in every possible way to confront its challenges and protect communities and youth from its harmful impacts.

Al-Bassami emphasized that drugs, psychotropic substances, and toxins represent cross-border crimes and significant crises faced by countries worldwide. “These substances increasingly impact various aspects of life—security, political, social, and economic—in both developed and developing societies, often leading to numerous criminal and financial offenses, as well as intellectual deviations. These challenges persist amidst rapid global changes and continuous developments,” he said.

The Public Security chief highlighted the government’s acknowledgment, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, of the dangers posed by drugs. The leadership has prioritized protecting citizens, safeguarding their rights, and preserving national resources, firmly countering any threats to national security and efforts that corrupt the minds of the people.

The security campaign against drugs, directed by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and overseen by Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif, has yielded tangible positive results in combating drug dealers and smugglers, demonstrating resolute determination and a strong resolve to eradicate this issue.

Al-Bassami expressed optimism that this occasion would serve as an opportunity to enhance awareness of the dangers of drugs and to safeguard humanity from their tragic and deadly consequences.
