TOPIC: Apply His Word (Open Heaven for Teens 14 November 2024)

MEMORISE: I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. – Psalm 138:2

READ: Psalms 138:1-3 (KJV)

1 I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.

2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

3 In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.

MESSAGE:

Knowing God’s word is not the same as applying it, just as having knowledge is not the same as wisdom. For instance, a doctor who knows that smoking is injurious to his or her health might be a chain smoker. Such a doctor has knowledge about the harmful effects of smoking, but he or she refuses to apply it.

My dear child, you should note that knowing God’s word is as important as applying it to situations. Many believers try to emotionally blackmail God when faced with challenges instead of using His word. God is only moved by the correct application of His word. He is a God of principles; no wonder a mathematician like me finds it easy to enjoy Him because emotions do not often move me. I know that 2+2=4, so crying for the answer to be 6 is futile because it will always remain the same. As a child of God, now that you know that God is not moved by emotions but by His word, wisdom demands that you apply His word often.

Today’s memory verse says that He honours His word above His name; therefore, I implore you to confront issues with His word and not your tears.

ACTION POINT:
Remind God of His word concerning your challenges today.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Ezekiel 29:1-30:26, Hebrews 11:32-12:13

HYMN 21: Standing On The Promises Of Christ My King

  1. Standing on the promises of Christ, my King,
    Through eternal ages let his praises ring;
    Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
    Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain:
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God, my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

  1. Standing on the promises that cannot fail.
    When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
    By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
    Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
  2. Standing on the promises of Christ, the Lord,
    Bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
    Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
    Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
  3. Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
    List’ning ev’ry moment to the Spirit’s call,
    Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
    Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

Daily Devotional for Teen’s guide was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, one of the largest evangelical church in the world and also the President of Christ the Redeemer’s Ministries.
