A few years ago when I was at a bookstore in West Texas, I met a longtime reader. She asked me what my plans were, and I admitted that for the past few months, I’d become obsessed with cookies. “Perhaps I’ll write a cookie book,” I said.
While the idea of a cookie book never came into being, my obsession with baking them and coming up with variations on already-proven recipes has not waned. Pies, cakes, and breads are typically the baked goods my family prepares, though a plate of homemade cookies often appears . . .
