The final day of the 2023 World Championships in Doha was eagerly anticipated, and the organisers more than lived up to expectations. With almost all the female championships decided, with just the Platinum to go, it was onto the males.

So, to the males and it was the Yearling Colt World Championship first, with Sari Ajmal claiming the Gold World Champion title. LR Anselmo was awarded the Silver, with Sahm Sarm named Bronze World Champion.

The Junior Male World Championship saw a special moment as the son of the newly-crowned World Champion D Shihanah, D Shahhar, take the title, making it a magical moment for Dubai Arabian Stud. Lehon took Silver World Champion title, with and D Sharar Bronze. To add to this great success for Dubai Arabian Stud, they were also named Best Farm and Beset Breeder, two accolades they retained from last year. Their senior stallion, FA el Rasheem (FA el Shawan x Virtuosa MLR), was awarded Best Sire in the Show. These results are a true testament to their breeding programme.

The Senior Male Championship had many of the spectators split on who would take the title – and the judges were also split! In the end, it was Excalibur EA who was crowned Gold World Champion, and this double World Champion is now deservedly retired from the show-ring. The enigmatic EKS Farajj was awarded the Silver; hopefully, we will see him compete again in the future for the Gold title. The Bronze title went to Sultan Alenaya.

The Platinum Championships provide an exceptional opportunity to pitch the past World Champions against each other, and what a class these could be. Disappointingly, there was only one entry in the Female Platinum class. This was Anood al Nasser (Ashhal al Rayyan x Aleysha al Nasser), bred by Al Nasser Stud and owned by Akmal Stud. Known and adored the world over, it was a treat to see her in the show-ring once more.

The Platinum Stallion Championship saw two of the great show horses competing, Sundown KA (QR Marc x L Serenella), bred by Knocke Arabians and owned by Sultan Mohammed al Dossari, and EKS Alihandro (Marwan al Shaqab x OFW Psylhouette), bred by Elkasun Arabians – Willie Brown, and owned by Athbah Stud. I think everyone present will agree when I say the only way to describe EKS Alihandro is ‘goosebumps’. This horse has such presence and charisma – he was born for the show-ring. Sundown KA is such a quality stallion with great type and beauty; however, this was not enough to beat Alihandro, who took the title in his typical Alihandro style. What a horse!

The World Championships 2024 were truly extraordinary. The venue, the setting, the atmosphere, the breathtaking sunsets as the horses were being shown, plus the service from the hospitality teams. All credit must go to the show team who put on an outstanding event that showcased Doha perfectly. Until 2025, when the World Championships returns to Qatar once more, Masalam.
