Airline shopping portals regularly offer promotions for bonus miles. This round, earn 1,000 bonus miles through two participating shopping portals after spending at least $300. Normally the shopping portal offers overlap, but Alaska’s promotion ended just as American Airlines and United launch their promotions.
Bonuses from airline shopping portals are additional to the rewards you will earn through the shopping portals and from making purchases with a rewards credit card. That means you can triple-dip on rewards with your online purchases.
Let’s look at the bonus miles currently available from these airline shopping portal promotions.
Current Airline Shopping Portal Promotions
American Airlines and United just replaced Alaska for this month’s promotions. Both airline shopping portals only have 1 tier this month and don’t offer a lot of points, but they are better than nothing.
American Airlines AAdvantage® shopping portal promotion
Now through April 15, 2024, you can earn 500 bonus miles when shopping through the AAdvantage Shopping portal. There’s only one tier to this promotion: Spend $200 through the shopping portal and earn 500 bonus miles (an extra 2.5x on your spending).
United MileagePlus shopping portal promotion
Until April 15, 2024, you can earn 500 bonus miles when shopping through the MileagePlus Shopping portal. There’s only one tier to this promotion: Spend $100 through the shopping portal and earn 500 bonus miles (an extra 5x on your spending).
Airline shopping portals without promotions
Alaska’s promotion just ended, Delta normally has a shopping portal promotion later in April, and Southwest doesn’t join the April round of offers. However, you can still check the Mileage Plan Shopping portal, SkyMiles Shopping portal, or Rapid Rewards Shopping portal to see if there’s a specific sale you’re looking for. This week, some featured stores include:
- Blue Apron
- IHG
- Khiel’s
- Under Armour
- Viator
- Zoro.com
Key terms and conditions
- The American and United promotions both run through April 15, 2024 at 11:59:59 pm ET.
- “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus points/miles.
- Allow up to 10 weeks after the promo end date for bonus award points/miles to post.
- Purchases during the bonus period are cumulative; you do not have to spend the full amount on one purchase or a single day
- With the American AAdvantage portal, note that the bonus miles won’t count as Loyalty Points toward status, though the base earnings will net Loyalty Points.
Final Thoughts
Airline shopping portal promotions follow the same schedule each year. We normally see Alaska, American Airlines, and United promotions at the beginning of the month with Delta at the end, all with different tiers and rewards each year. This round, United has the better deal, offering 5X points instead of 2.5X with AA.
A true miles maximizer should also check sites like CashbackMonitor or Evreward to ensure there isn’t a better portal bonus for your retailer of choice. In situations where the total number of bonus miles is comparable, earning Membership Rewards through Rakuten may be the highest-value option.
Also, it’s worth checking to see what other deals these portals offer. Each shopping portal is different; earning rates can vary for the store you want to shop at. Finally, remember that shopping portals are often a great way to prevent your miles from expiring.
