Twenty seven registered bidders shocked at blowout auction sale

27 registered bidders competed for a home in Bridgeman Downs on Saturday morning, at an auction that saw the house sell for well over its reserve price.

According to PropTrack data, the four-bedroom, two-bathroom house at 76 Saturn Cres was the most-viewed Queensland home up for auction this weekend, advertised as a spacious family retreat in a serene environment.

Fifteen active bidders competed on a rainy Saturday morning for the property, gathering inside the home as the home was auctioned off.

A starting bid of $1 million set off the proceedings, with families jumping in as the bidding rose at a hectic pace.

Agent Skye Parker of Ray White Bridgeman Downs said the price for the home shot up in small but steady increments, at one point increasing by $500 a bid.

Soon, two families had become the only competing bidders, with the underbidder stretching the limits of what they were willing to pay.

“It pretty hectic, the auctioneer said it was one brick at a time,” Ms Parker said.

Finally, after 40 bids, the winning buyers managed to take the property for $1.708 million.

The house, close to the nearby forest north of Brisbane, was advertised as a family retreat with plenty of space.

With rain pouring down outside, bidders gathered indoors to compete over the house, with dozens of people registering for the auction.

The suburb median for Bridgeman Downs is $1,317,500, which this auction result beat by more than $300,000.

Ms Parker said the old vendors of the home, a young family, were ecstatic with the result.

“They couldn’t be happier … it was well over reserve,” she said.

The winning bidders ended up being a family looking to upsize, who had already lived in the area nearby. The family said they don’t see a need for renovations as of yet, planning to move into the house and leave it as is.

The most-viewed Queensland home up for auction this weekend was initially 2511 Cressbrook Drive, Hope Island, until the auction for the property was delayed to December 7.
