Dynamite Comics’ highly anticipated release of The Powerpuff Girls comic has confirmed to be doing something a little neat compared to their usual comic cover strategy. The three issues will feature each girl individually on the covers for issues 1 through 3, but together, connect to form one wide mega-cover. All for a collectible fans won’t want to miss.
“This project has to be one of my all-time favorites I’ve taken part in!,” said cover designer and issue two interior artist Karen S. Darboe. “Being usually oriented to a more realistic style of drawing made this project quite challenging since I was faced with something on the total opposite of the spectrum. I really wanted to honor this fun series I grew up with which, on the top of everything, brought me closer to my two longest standing friends I used to play with! In fact, as soon as the first cover was revealed, I immediately sent it to them remembering the good old days when we wanted to be super heroines like Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup!”
Beyond this, the three covers will also spotlight the most popular villains in the Powerpuff Girl franchise including HIM, Mojo Jojo, and Sedusa. If that wasn’t enough, it’s now confirmed that Kelly Thompson’s stories on the series will also feature a new unique interior artist on every issue, with Paulina Ganucheau kicking off the party, Karen S. Darboe in for the second one, and then Miriana Puglia drawing the interiors for issue #3. If this weren’t enough, Ganucheau, Leonardo Romero, and Nicoletta Baldari will also be providing some variant covers.
The Powerpuff Girls comic kicks off with issue #1 will be available for preorder in May and will debut in July. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more.
