One dead and five injured in northeast DC shooting

One person was killed and five people were injured in a shooting in Washington, D.C.’s northeastern quadrant on Wednesday evening, police said.

The age of the man who was killed has not been released, but he was pronounced dead on the scene. The injured victims include two children, one 9 years old and one 12. Both children were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, along with two men and one woman.

“This is another example, and I’ve been here before in this space, of violence that we cannot, we just cannot accept in our communities,” Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith told reporters. “My condolences go out to the families and friends who were impacted by this senseless gun violence tonight.”

Smith said that two suspects exited a car in the 1100 block of 21st Street, N.E., and began shooting into a crowd at approximately 6:10 p.m. Police are looking for a blue Toyota in connection to the shooting.
