If you would like to book a holiday while earning Alaska miles, you can do so with the new Alaska Vacations booking portal. Plus, you’ll earn 2,000 bonus miles with your package. However, there’s a high spending threshold to earn the miles. Are the miles worth pursuing? Let’s take a look.
Alaska Vacations
Alaska Vacations launched in March 2024; it’s a booking platform powered by Expedia, allowing Mileage Plan members to earn miles on vacation packages. The platform makes it easy to book a vacation package including flights, accommodations, and/or car rental, all in the same easy booking. More than that, the platform offers discounts on the hotel portion of the stay.
Normally, travelers don’t earn as many points or miles when using Expedia as they would by booking directly with the airline or hotel. In the case of this new partnership, Mileage Plan members still earn miles on the package. In the press release, Alaska Airlines states, “Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Members will earn miles for every package booked via Alaska Vacations, on top of the normal flight miles earned.” The only problem: Exact details aren’t given as to how many miles you can earn.
2,000 Bonus Miles With a $2,000 Package
In celebration of the new platform, Alaska Airlines is offering members 2,000 bonus miles when booking a package on Alaska Vacations. Unfortunately, there are several caveats to get these bonus miles. First, members need to book a package with a round-trip flight and accommodations by April 19, 2024, and the accommodations must extend through the duration of the trip between flights. Thus, you can’t book one or two hotel nights here and then book further accommodations elsewhere using your points.
Eligible travel is between April 5 and July 31, 2024. Yet the biggest restriction to earning 2,000 bonus miles is that members must spend at least $2,000 on the package. Most of the packages aren’t even available at $2,000 for two people, and that’s a lot to spend for a meager 2,000 bonus miles.
On the other hand, using an Alaska Airlines Visa® credit card earns 3X miles in the Alaska Vacations booking portal. With this promotion, miles start to stack up. Book a package worth over $2,000 by April 19 and pay with an Alaska Visa Card to earn 2,000 bonus miles plus 6,000+ miles with the card (3X miles). That’s in addition to the miles normally earned on the Alaska Airlines flight.

Our Take
Alaska Vacations seems to be decent a platform if you want to book your entire vacation package all at once and earn Mileage Plan miles on all parts of the package. Obviously, the best deal is earning 3X miles when using an Alaska Visa Card. 2,000 bonus miles for $2,000 of spending isn’t the best deal, but stacking all the offers together makes the portal a bit more appealing.
