“This is incredible. I’ve been handed an Oscar. I’m an Oscar winner. … It’s amazing,” O’Brien joked in an announcement video released by the Academy on X.
“No, you’re the host,” a producer replied.

“I’m an Oscar host,” the comedian said. “Oh, but do I still get to keep the Oscar?”
“No, you don’t,” the voice replied as a gloved hand pulled the iconic award away from O’Brien.
It will be the first time O’Brien hosts film’s biggest night, and it might mark Hollywood’s turning away from the woke Left.
Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 95th and 96th Academy Awards, and the late-night host made sure to throw jabs at President-elect Donald Trump.
In 2024, the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host read off Trump’s Truth Social posts regarding the Oscars and asked the then-former president, “Isn’t it past your jail time?”
Kimmel most recently went viral for breaking down in reaction to Trump’s election-night victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Let’s be honest, it was a terrible night last night. It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make this country go,” Kimmel said before he teared up. “It was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him, and guess what, it was a bad night for everyone who voted for him, too. You just don’t realize it yet.”
The 97th Oscars is set to be held on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, according to a statement from the Walt Disney Company.
