6 Pear Court, Burwood East, is being sold by Bernard Curry and wife Sonya.

Actor Bernard Curry and wife Sonya are selling their mid-century-style Burwood East house where he has filmed many audition tapes including for Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky.

The action thriller, co-starring Hollywood leading man Liam Neeson and Chinese megastar Fan Bingbing, recently wrapped shooting in Victoria.

Curry is known for several other movie and television roles including Wentworth, Neighbours, Home and Away, My Life is Murder and Savage River.

His brothers Andrew, an actor, writer and producer, and Stephen, an actor and comedian, are also well known to Australian audiences.

In 2021, Curry and Sonya purchased their three-bedroom home at 6 Pear Court, the first house they bought together after falling in love with its proximity to the nearby reserve; the outdoor solar-heated pool for their sons to swim in; and the 1960s-build.

The couple embarked on a “modern renovation with a few mid-century notes and accents”.

“I did a lot of the renovating myself with my brother Andrew, we’re both quite handy,” Curry said.

“It was a great excuse to buy new tools.”

After previously living in a Glen Iris rental with a small kitchen, fitting out the Burwood East house’s kitchen with a stone breakfast bar, Smeg oven and induction cooktop, integrated microwave and dishwasher was another highlight.

“My favourite room is the kitchen, I do most of the food preparation in the family,” Curry said.

“It’s a just a joy to cook in.”

The sunroom, which the family uses for dining, takes in the surrounding tree-filled views.

Bernard Curry said he and Sonya picked up mid-century furniture and items while living in Los Angeles, some of which they used to decorate their Burwood East house before it was styled for the sales campaign. Picture: Eugene Hyland.

Other drawcards included the green parkland views and quiet cul-de-sac location.

“From the kitchen and the sunroom, you get a great sense of space and it’s just beautiful,” Curry said.

“Also the feeling of privacy you get in the backyard, there are no neighbours looking in.”

He converted an under-house car park into a self-contained studio, with a powder room and separate entrance to the main house, to record music, do voiceover work and create audition reels.

“It could be used for an office, fourth bedroom, a teaching space or a home-based business like an accountant’s or a hairdresser,” he said.

Curry said he and Sonya had not expected to sell the house so soon but that his wife had been given an “amazing opportunity” to become head of safety at Brisbane’s Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

Jellis Craig Whitehorse director Stephen Le Get said the abode’s other features include an open fireplace, keyless entry, a Google Nest home automation system and outdoor undercover entertaining area.

“It’s been renovated to a really high standard with a combination of brick, timber, polished concrete floors and hardwood floors,” Mr Le Get added.

The home will be auctioned on May 11 with a $1.2m-$1.3m price guide.
