Transferring Avios From Other Airlines

One thing to remember is that Avios are unique in the world of points and miles. Multiple carriers share the currency, and you can transfer your Avios between programs freely and instantly. This flexibility lets you consolidate Avios balances from several programs into one to get you closer to your next redemption option. You can transfer Avios between the following airlines:

  • Aer Lingus
  • British Airways
  • Iberia
  • Qatar Airways

And Finnair should join that list sometime in 2024.

Our Take

Whenever it comes to point and miles purchase promotions, the big question is, “Is it worth it?” In this case, if you need Avios and can lock in the best price, this is an excellent deal to boost your Avios balance. However, as with all points purchases, a big warning is you should never purchase points speculatively. If you don’t have a planned use for your points, you are generally better off holding cash than risking a points devaluation or expiration of your Avios.
