Like a ghost in the machine learning to haunt again, ROSSY and Pauline Herr captivate in their new collaboration, “HOLY.”
Out now via Thrive, “HOLY” finds the pair reuniting to produce an aching bass anthem. There’s a disarming tension here, a push and pull between longing and isolation that makes the song as relentless as it is tender.
Layered over ethereal yet bruising production, Herr’s gnawing question, “Do you think of me?” hangs in the void like an unanswered text at 3am. After the track’s soaring drop, both producers flex their skills in the break, where arpeggios flicker like notification lights in the dark.
The genius of “HOLY” lies in how ROSSY and Herr capture that uniquely modern emptiness—the paradox of feeling completely alone while surrounded by endless ways to connect.
These two best friends, however, have leaned on each other throughout their respective careers in electronic music.
“Making music with your best friend and being able to chase your dreams together is a pretty indescribable feeling,” ROSSY tells EDM.com. “Pauline and I wrote this song to encompass a lot of emotions. We wanted this song to be healing with a chant of, ‘Do you think of me.’ It’s not meant in a sad, somber way, but rather in a powerful way.”
The new track, she adds, comes with visuals steeped in symbolism and various motifs to convey its emotional core.
“The clown makeup stands for sometimes feeling foolish,” ROSSY explains. “The water represents what it feels like to be so consumed with emotion and anger and sadness you feel like you’re drowning, and the horse symbolizes freedom and running so far away and healing.”
