Zoe Saldana Reveals The One Thing She Disliked About Her Time In The MCU

Zoe Saldana played Gamora in several movies across the MCU. Although she enjoyed her time in the superhero franchise, the actor disliked the excessive makeup.

Saldana shared her MCU pet peeve during an interview with Vanity Fair, where she was asked if the end of Guardians of the Galaxy felt like closing a chapter in her career. “I can’t ever say that I won’t ever go to space. I love being in space,” she said. “I would like to just be a human in space. I don’t see myself going through the three to four hours every morning of makeup. I’m so concerned about just the chemicals and stuff that you’re putting into your system for long periods of time, because we shoot these films in a period of five months. But I love science fiction.”

Shrinking’s second season is going strong, and CBR sat down with Luke Tennie to talk about Sean’s growth and big scenes from his latest episode.

Saldana first played Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), where she escapes her life as an assassin. As the film series progresses, she repairs her strained relationship with her sister Nebula, who was also a victim of their father Thanos’ manipulative cruelty. Gamora’s story comes to an end in Avengers: Infinity War (2018), when she confronts her father as he hunts for the Infinity Stones. He eventually sacrifices Gamora to obtain the Soul Stone, though she does return as a variant.

Saldana Regrets Not Having A Better Understanding of Gamora

The actor recently said that she still has some regrets about her performance as Thanos’ troubled daughter. “I wish I could go back and reshoot what Gamora was going through in the Avengers movies,” Saldana explained. “I don’t think I was quite understanding what the Russo Brothers [were doing]. I wish that I could go back and redo it so that I can push a little harder, because it was such a great opportunity to play a daughter having issues with a dad.”

And whether or not she’s having this opportunity to [reconcile] or to heal or to repair or simply just walk away from this person – that would have been a great opportunity had I been a little more aware of it back then,” Saldana continued, while reflecting on her time in the MCU. “I wish I could go back in time and just try so many more things for [Gamora]. She was a really fun character to play, but also a really deep character,” she said.
