Everything We Know About Nobody 2

Starring Break Bad and Better Call Saul’s beloved veteran actor Bob Odenkirk, Nobody made a surprise splash when it hit theaters in early 2021, during the tumultuous box-office stretch of the post-pandemic. Despite the pedigree of its main star, this small-budget action flick punched well above everyone’s expectations, delivering nearly $60 million on a budget of just $16 million.

A lot of that success has to do with not just Bob Odenkirk’s presence (although that certainly helped) but also the creative DNA that Nobody shares with the John Wick franchise, being written by Wick’s creator, Derek Kolstad. Following that warm reception, it didn’t take long for Kolstad and members of the film’s cast to begin teasing the possibility of a sequel. Now, three years later, fans know that a sequel to Nobody isn’t just on its way; it’s almost here.

What’s the Official Status of Nobody 2?

That’s a Wrap, Hutch

Hutch smokes a cigarette and strokes a cat while being interrogated by police

In late 2021, Nobody co-producer Kelly McCormick officially announced that Nobody 2 was on its way, being scripted once again by writer Derek Kolstad. The first Nobody was directed by action-savvy filmmaker Ilya Naishuller, who made a name for himself in Hollywood thanks to his innovative approach to the first-person action extravaganza Hardcore Henry.

With Naishuller already tapped to direct the upcoming action comedy Heads of State starring Idris Elba and John Cena, Nobody 2 recruited a new director in Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto. A mainstay in the horror anthology franchise V/H/S, Timo has also worked on such popular films as May the Devil Take You and The Night Comes for Us. He’s teaming up with returning stars Bob Odenkirk as the mild-mannered Hutch Mansell and Connie Nielsen, who’s returning to star as Hutch’s infinitely patient wife, Becca. If the action sequences in Nobody 2 reach the same heights as some of Timo’s other films (especially The Night Comes for Us), then this film is in incredibly safe hands.

In terms of how far along the production is, Nobody 2 began filming in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in early August 2024. After two months of shooting, production wrapped in October of that same year, as director Timo Tjahjanto confirmed when he took to Instagram to commemorate the moment.

Now that we know that Nobody 2‘s release is on track let’s try to unearth what this film might hold in store for returning fans of the franchise.

What Is Nobody 2 About?

Nobody Knows… Yet

Written by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, the original Nobody sees Bob Odenkirk bring Hutch Mansell to life. Hutch, the film’s main character, is an officer worker and family man who is stuck in a mundane existence until he proves himself as a more than capable ass-kicker by standing up to a group of drunk criminals harassing others on a public bus.

During the scuffle, Hutch unintentionally kills one of the thugs, who just so happens to be the brother of a local Russian crime lord. In deep waters with the Russian mob, Hutch has to fall back on his former life as a retired government assassin to survive with a little help from his father, David (Christopher Lloyd), and brother, Harry (RZA). It’s safe to say that Hutch survives this particular adventure, and a moment at the tail end of the movie in which Hutch receives a mysterious phone call suggests that whatever danger he might be in isn’t quite over yet.

Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody Sequel Gets an Exciting Update

New reports about Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody franchise include an exciting update on the anticipated sequel.

As for what obstacles specifically Hutch will be facing in his upcoming adventure, well, those are being kept under wraps for now. When asked to discuss what awaits the Mansell clan in the upcoming sequel, actress Connie Nielsen told ScreenRant,

“I’m a family person and I love depicting the tensions inside of a family; the natural tensions, but also the sweetness that underlies the love that connects all of these people together. This is a great family. It’s a great story that I look forward to returning to, definitely.”

Reading between the lines a little bit, that quote portends that Hutch’s next adventure might very well have a detrimental effect on his otherwise idyllic family life, something that most action franchises tend to shy away from for the sake of making sure that melodrama never upstages the physical violence. It’s also likely that the scope of the movie has expanded from the first film, especially considering that this time, the script for Nobody 2 has been written not just by Derek Kolstad but also by Aaron Rabin, Umair Aleem, and Hutch Mansell himself, Bob Odenkirk.

Who Is Starring In Nobody 2?

They Sure As Heck Aren’t Unknown

With the majority of the good guys (miraculously) surviving the experiences of Nobody, there’s a pretty good chance we’ll see the return of all the franchise’s popular characters. First and foremost, the sequel will once again be led by star Bob Odenkirk (Mr. Show) as the (not-quite) everyman, Hutch Mansell. Alongside Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen (The Hunted) will also return as Hutch’s wife, Becca, as will Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) as the patriarch of the family, David Mansell.

Other returning cast members include RZA (Ghost Dog) as Harry Mansell, Michael Ironside (RoboCop) as Hutch’s father-in-law, Eddie, Gage Munroe (Falling Skies) as Hutch’s son, Blake and Colin Salmon (Resident Evil) as The Barber, Hutch’s former government handler.

Catwoman’s Sharon Stone will play a villain in Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody sequel.

Additionally, Hutch will have a new slew of bad guys to contend with, spearheaded by one of the most sinister femme fatale actresses of all time, Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct). Unfortunately, the details of her role and her issues with Hutch have yet to be revealed. The same goes for the specifics for the recently announced Mckenna Grace (I Tonya) and John Ortiz (Bad Monkey), who have both signed on for undisclosed roles. As for Colin Hank’s, well, according to reports, he’ll be portraying a local power-hungry sheriff named Abel, but as for what side of Hutch he’ll ultimately end up on, we’ll have to wait to find out.

When Will Nobody 2 Hit Theaters?

The Franchise Fights Back This Coming Summer

Bob Odenkirk gets punched in the face from both sides in the one-sheet for Nobody

After being revealed at the very end of 2021, Nobody 2 was hit by a series of delays, as many of the films announced within a year or so of the recent AFTRA and SAG strikes that played havoc with Hollywood’s release calendar ultimately were.

Thankfully, production got back on track in 2024, and now Nobody 2 is scheduled to release on August 15, 2025, when it hits theaters worldwide. That means by the time it finally arrives, it will have been over four years since the first Nobody sucker punched audiences into submission, and hopefully, this highly anticipated sequel can do the same.
