Deadpool Is Making History at Disney Again in an Unexpected New Way

Disney’s first mega cruise ship, the Disney Adventure, will set sail for the first time in 2025 with a brand new permanent Deadpool experience. The Direct reports that the Disney Adventure will have one of its decks dedicated to the MCU with attractions focusing on The Avengers and one featuring Wade Wilson’s alter ego Deadpool.

The Disney Adventure, a 6,700-passenger ship, will be similar to a Disney theme park and will have seven themed areas, two of which will offer guests the opportunity to explore the MCU.

Deadpool, made famous by Ryan Reynolds in three movies, including this summer’s mega-blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine, will have a home in the “Avengers Assemble” show on the ship, which combines stunts, screens, and other MCU mainstays like Spider-Man, Black Panther, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor.

Deadpool Will Be a Permanent Part of the Cruise Ship’s Avengers Show

The new show will mark the first time that a Disney Cruise Line has included the Ryan Reynolds character in a show permanently. In the past, Disney cruises have had Marvel-themed shows, but nothing with Deadpool.

Including the “Merc with a Mouth” in the Disney cruise show is a first, but it’s also a bit of a continuation, as Disney has been using the character in its parks and at the recent D23 Parks Panel.

In the Disney parks, the company described Deadpool’s often R-rated presence as “family-friendly” within the parks. Deadpool is a part of a “Story Time with Deadpool” program at the park’s Avengers Campus. Deadpool’s park presence, however, was on a limited-time basis and not a permanent one like on the cruise.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s Record-Breaking Summer

This summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, taking in $1.34 billion worldwide. Reynolds was recently asked if a fourth movie in the franchise is on the horizon.

“I would love that, but there’s a reason it’s been six years since the last one,” Reynolds told Extra. “It just sort of swallows my life whole, and I, you know, have four kids that I wouldn’t mind introducing myself to at some point and spending a little time, just walking them to and from school.”

That being said, Reynolds added he “loved every second” of making Deadpool & Wolverine. I mean, I was genuinely sad and a little depressed when we locked picture, the final sound mix. I remember that was kind of it, and then suddenly I just felt like, ‘All the possibility is gone. Like, that’s it, this is the movie. That’s what’s going out there. The way it was received, though, in a world that is desperately in need of a little bit of joy here and there, it felt really good to deliver that,” he said.

Another Collaboration With Deadpool Alums

Reynolds, however, will be reuniting with Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy for an upcoming project that is also set to involve Jackman. Reynolds told Variety in a previous interview that he is working on a mystery non-Marvel movie with Levy and Jackman. “I’m spending the year writing. I’m writing a movie for myself, Hugh (Jackman) and Shawn (Levy) to do that is not Marvel,” Reynolds said. It’s unknown at this time if the movie is in development at a studio.
