Marvel announces THUNDERBOLTS: DOOMSTRIKE

Writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly are officially returning to the world of the Thunderbolts, with a five-part One World Under Doom tie-in, Thunderbolts: Doomstrike. Rendered by artist Tommaso Bianchi (Giant-Size Silver Surfer), the series sees Bucky Barnes’s Thunderbolts attempt to take down the newly crowned Emperor Doom, spurring Victor to reunite the original roster (including Moonstone, Atlas, and Fixer) to fend them off.

Doom took over the world. And Bucky Barnes helped him do it. To atone for his unwitting role in Doom’s triumph, Bucky assembles a team with one goal: burn it all down. But when Bucky’s saboteurs — including Black Widow, Songbird, U.S. Agent, Sharon Carter and a few surprise wildcards — launch a no-holds-barred campaign to tear Doom’s Empire apart, Doom decides to prove that revolution ends in blood…

Kelly and Lanzing, who wrote the Thunderbolts miniseries (featuring art by Geraldo Borges) from earlier this year, and Bucky’s prior most recent adventures in Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, stated, “We can’t wait for folks to see what Ryan [North] and company have planned for One World Under Doom – a Marvel event with brains, heart, and incredible scope. The Thunderbolts are a crucial part of the puzzle: this is the story of what happens when heroes openly oppose Doom… and how they’ll have to learn to fight differently if they’re ever to make a difference.”

They continue, saying, “With returning characters and storylines we’ve been building since our run on Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, plus new and returning Thunderbolts from all eras, Thunderbolts: Doomstrike is a whole new take on Marvel’s messiest, meanest superteam – a story about fighting the power, even if it costs you everything.”

The first issue will be released on February 19, ahead of the Thunderbolts* movie’s arrival in theaters on May 2. The main, now nine-issue One World Under Doom series, by Ryan North and R.B. Silva, will begin in the meantime on February 12, while two other announced tie-in series — MacKenzie Cadenhead & Pasqual Ferry‘s Doom Academy, and Joe Casey & ChrisCross‘s Weapon X-Men — will debut on the same day as Doomstrike. The new, ongoing Red Hulk series, by Benjamin Percy and Geoff Shaw, will begin as a tie-in the following week on February 26.
