Ryanair has inaugurated flights from Sarajevo for the first time, making Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital its second destination in the country. Operations commenced this morning with its service from Gothenburg, which was followed by its flight from London Stansted. This week, Europe’s largest airline will add flights from Charleroi, Bergamo and Memmingen to Sarajevo, followed by Thessaloniki in June. The carrier will bring a total of 99.596 seats to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital this summer season. Ryanair’s arrival is a direct result of the subsidies provided by local authorities for the introduction of new flights from the city. Ryanair previously said it plans to handle some 200.000 passengers during its first year of Sarajevo operations, saying it is only “just the beginning” for the city, but has ruled out a base for the time being.
