For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. — Philippians 3:20
Some time ago, my family and I were traveling on a vacation. We had taken a flight from the airport near our home and had enjoyed a few days away. Soon, we were on the last night of our trip and packing to go home. As my wife and I were packing our things, my son looked at me upset. He asked the question, “Are we going home?”
He had enjoyed the trip. There were many new sites and experiences that he had was we were on vacation. At that moment, he didn’t want to go home. He wanted to stay and enjoy vacation a little longer. We had our pets, home, and job to return to. Soon, we were on our flight going home.
There are many things in this life that we all enjoy. We may enjoy time with family, times of travel, times of work, or countless other things. Not all things in this life are wicked that we may enjoy. But we must keep in mind that we are not permanent in this world.
The word conversation in this verse is translated from the word politeuma, which means community or commonwealth. As Christians, our community and commonwealth is in Heaven, not in this world. While we may certainly enjoy aspects of the trip through this life, there will come a time when we will be going home.
The best thing to do when you know you are going home is to be prepared. We must know that our hearts are right with God having accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior. Then, we must live our lives prepared as if we may go home at any moment. Soon, we will all be going home. Are you ready?
