About Lucky Charms Cereal Bars
Celebrate St Patrick’s Day (or simply your love of Lucky Charms cereal) with these brightly colored Lucky Charms cereal bars. Similar to marshmallow treats (also known as a good ol’-fashioned Rice Krispie treat), these cereal bars combine Lucky Charms cereal and sticky marshmallows to create a festive dessert that’s fun to make, share, or gift.
What ingredients are in Lucky Charms cereal bars?
In order to whip up these colorful “leprechaun bait” Lucky Charm treats, you’ll need to collect the following ingredients:
- Salted Butter: Used to melt with marshmallows to create a smooth, rich base for the bars. Its saltiness balances the sweetness.
- Mini Marshmallows: Melt into a gooey mixture that binds the Lucky Charms cereal together to form the bars.
- Lucky Charms Cereal: Provides a crunchy texture and colorful appearance, making the bars visually appealing and enjoyable to eat.
- Colorful Mini Marshmallows: Added for extra sweetness and color, enhancing the visual appeal and texture without fully melting into the mixture.
Can you microwave the ingredients instead?
Absolutely! To do this, add the butter and mini marshmallows to a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 2 minutes on medium power, then thoroughly mix for 1 minute or until smooth. If the mixture still has solids, return it to the microwave and heat for an additional 30 seconds, then stir again.
How should they be stored?
Store Lucky Charms cereal bars in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain their texture.
How long are they good for?
When stored in an airtight container at room temperature, Lucky Charms cereal bars should remain fresh for up to one week.
Can you freeze them?
Yes, you totally can freeze Lucky Charms cereal bars! Here’s how to do it:
- Wrap each bar individually in plastic wrap to prevent sticking and freezer burn.
- Place the wrapped bars in a freezer bag or airtight container.
- Lucky Charms cereal bars can be frozen for up to 1-2 months.
Note: To thaw, simply leave them out at room temperature for about 15 minutes before serving. They should return to their original texture and be ready to enjoy!
Notes & tips for Lucky Charms cereal bars
- If you ever need to work the coated cereal with your hands, you can either wet your fingers with water or spray them with cooking spray to keep the mixture from sticking to your hands.
- If you can find them, Kraft even makes their own brand of Lucky Charms marshmallows. You can use these in place of the colorful mini marshmallows in the recipe.
- To cut the treats cleanly, you can use a sharp knife coated with a thin layer of butter or cooking spray. Clean the knife after each cut to ensure smooth, even slices.

How to make Lucky Charms cereal bars
This next part is only a photo tutorial of the recipe steps. If you’re looking for the full recipe measurements and instructions, scroll down to Recipe Details.
Step 1 – Line a 9×13 inch baking dish with parchment or aluminum foil, leaving an overhang for easy removal. If using foil, lightly grease it with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
Step 2 – In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the mini marshmallows, then cook and stir constantly until the mixture is smooth and the marshmallows are completely melted.
Step 3 – Remove the saucepan from the heat, then pour the Lucky Charms cereal into the marshmallow mixture. Use a spatula to gently mix everything together, ensuring that the cereal is thoroughly coated.
Step 4 – Mix in the colorful mini marshmallows, stirring just enough to incorporate them without them melting too much, maintaining their shape for an extra dash of color and texture.
Step 5 – Transfer the Lucky Charms cereal mixture into the prepared baking dish and smooth it out into an even layer. Pro tip: Use another piece of parchment paper to gently press down on the cereal mixture (while being careful not to compact it) as a mess-free way to get an even layer. Once done, you can press in a few clean pieces of Lucky Charms cereal on top for decoration.
Step 6 – Let set!
Step 7 – Serve and enjoy!
