Always Clink the Glass. – Simple Joyful Food

Myths and traditions aside, clinking your glass with someone brings happiness to all involved and draws us closer together.

Hello.

Today’s Small Food Idea is a small habit you can adopt immediately. No special glasses are involved, or special occasions are needed. And you don’t need a particular type of drink.

You need someone else.

A moment.

And something to clink.

Myths and traditions.

A quick search on Google, the source of all things, will quickly inform you of all the theories, myths, and traditions associated with raising a glass, clinking it with those you are with, and saying, “Cheers.”

As you scroll the Google entries, you’ll see references from warding off evil spirits at ancient festivals to ensuring that your host from the Middle Ages isn’t poisoning you.

Your first thought might be similar to mine.

Ewh, that’s weird.”

However, tradition remains as we fast-forward to our modern age, and the reasoning shifts to a more “foodie” reasoning: clinking enhances the drink’s flavor by engaging all the senses.

Here’s why I always clink the glass.

I’m all about enhancing flavor and engaging all the senses. Flavor is good, and sensory experiences are great!

However, I always clink the glass because I love how it makes me feel. I also love seeing how it makes other people feel — they’re happy!

When we clink a glass, it elevates the moment. I also love seeing how it elevates other people’s moments—they’re happy!

Lastly, when you clink a glass, you feel you’re not alone because you are ENJOYING someone else’s company. I gotta admit that it makes me feel good to see other people enjoying my company—they’re happy!

And that makes me happy.

Clinking the glass is bonding, and it is entirely free of charge.

Cheers!

Eat well, my friends.
