When our mindset isn’t right, our attitudes tend to follow. Or maybe you notice your commitment levels go down.

Whatever happens, our mindset tends to lead the way.

If I’m honest, I feel like I’ve been in a funk lately. There’s a lack of desire to do the things I want to, I struggle to get my training runs in, and more. I just feel blah.

Have you ever been there? If you’re breathing, I know you have been.

My mental funk got me thinking… What does it take to change your mindset? How can I get my mind in a place where I actually want to do what needs to be done?

I’ve come to the conclusion there are actions you can take that will shift your mindset and get you on the right track.

5 Ways To Change Your Mindset

Change what you’re consuming:

Sometimes, we find ourselves consuming negative, frustrating content. It could be you’ve started to follow the political season a little too much. Or you’ve been going to the Hollywood tabloids to see the latest scandal.

Consuming negative content can hurt your mindset. You’re focusing on what’s wrong in the world rather than what’s right or positive. And there’s a lot of right and positive things happening.

Instead of going to the news or gossip sites, consider checking out positive, uplifting messages on your local Christian radio station, conference recordings, or other positive content sources.

Talk with a trusted friend:

We can get into a mindset funk if we’ve become secluded or isolated. Remember the isolation periods of COVID-19? It drove a lot of people crazy. They were isolated from friends and family.

I’ve found that talking to a trusted friend can help when my mindset isn’t where I want it to be. This is a person I trust and can share openly with. They listen without judgment. They also are willing to offer their insight into the situation.

Their kind yet firm words can correct a negative mindset.

Pray:

Going to God in prayer can help us change our mindset as well. When we begin to focus on Him, all He’s done, and all He’s going to do, we can begin to see He’s never failed us. Never will.

Lift up your worries and concerns… the things that are making your mindset negative… to Him. He’s there to listen.

Get moving :

Our lack of movement can put us into a mental funk. We sit in our office chairs for far too long. Or we lounge on the couch, waiting for the next email to come in.

Break the habit of being physically lazy. Move your body. Go out for a run. Play on the playground with your kids.

Physical movement is great for the mind.

Recharge:

If you notice a negative mindset coming on, look at your schedule. Have you packed it so full you haven’t had time to relax, recharge, and renew your body, mind, and soul?

You don’t have time to recharge if you’re constantly on the go. Yet, you must. Your body wasn’t meant to go on forever without rest.

Give yourself a good power nap or a good night’s sleep. You’ll find your mind works so much better when it’s had the time to recharge.
