If you have someone close to you in active addiction I’d like you to read this. Let’s call it a ‘wake up’. Those of us that work in addiction treatment have to practice self-care or else we would get burned out. And burnout sucks. If effects our ability to effectively deal with addicted individuals. It causes trouble in our own home. So, we have to take care of ourselves in order for this not to happen. And mind you, we have no emotional attachment to your loved one, or any addicted individual and it still effects us this way. That’s why we have to practice self-care and we have to have boundaries.
What do you think that it’s doing to you? You’re living in it everyday. You’re emotionally attached. You can pray and you can wish all you want.. but you’re affected more so than you realize. A solitary self-appraisal is usually insufficient. You need somebody to guide you along. There’s absolutely a solution though. Freedom is right around the corner, but it’s going to take a little work. You have to ask yourself if what you’ve done up to this point has been effective. Are you in a crisis situation and is doing nothing an option?
The best way to predict future behavior is to look at past behavior. If everyone is doing the same thing on repeat then what’s really changing?
