Solo Leveling’s 50,000,000+ Downloaded Game Wins Major Google Award

The first video game adaptation of the popular Solo Leveling webtoon series, Solo Leveling: Arise, has just walked home with two new awards, one coming from the major tech company, Google.

Via Google’s new blog entry “Google Play’s best apps and games of 2024,” Netmarble’s popular Solo Leveling: Arise won the award for “Best Story,” adding to its growing award total. Other Google Play game winners included Squad Busters (Best Multiplayer), Eggy Party (Best Pick Up & Play), Yes, Your Grace (Best Indie), Honkai: Star Rail (Best Ongoing), Tab Time World (Best for Families), Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance (Best on Play Pass) and Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures (Best for Google Play Games on PC).

Outside gaming, other notable awards included “Favorite Cozy Manga” for Ai Shimizu’s Breakfast with My Two-Tailed Cat. Google Play’s Japanese edition saw Shogakukan’s Manga One app win Best App, with the platform boasting over 30,000 titles. Other grand prizes include Shonen Jump’s Jump TOON webtoon app for Entertainment, Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade for Best Story and Fate/Grand Order for Best Ongoing title.

Solo Leveling: Arise‘s win follows its 2024 Grand Prize win at the Korea Game Awards last week. The official X (formerly Twitter) account thanked fans, stating, “We would like to thank all of our Hunters who have been with us over the years and we will do our best to repay your support and love.” It was organized by the Korean government’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Korea Game Industry Association. The Solo Leveling webtoon itself received an award from the MCST last month at the inaugural World Webtoon Awards as Korea’s leadership seeks to bolster cultural development domestically and its export worldwide. As part of its aims to safeguard Korea’s content industry, the MCST has also taken a strong approach to piracy; it just recently announced the arrest of one of Korea’s biggest piracy empire operators and the shutdown of Korea’s #1 web novel piracy site.
