Tom Cotton predicts Trump will be ‘gracious’ to opponents to unite country

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) shared his forecast for President-elect Donald Trump‘s second term, which included unity for the country.

Trump is facing many calls to unite the country since he won the Nov. 5 election. While appearing on One Nation with Brian Kilmeade, Cotton pointed to Trump’s change of tone in his victory speech late Tuesday night.

GREATEST COMEBACK? HERE’S HOW TRUMP STACKS UP IN WHITE HOUSE HISTORY

“Right now is a time for unity in our country. President Trump was very gracious and magnanimous in his victory speech on Tuesday night,” Cotton said. “I think we have a great chance building on his victory Tuesday night to improve the lives of Americans in a concrete, meaningful, and tangible way.”

According to the senator, Trump garnered voters who likely voted for the Republican Party for the first time. One notable demographic shift was the Latino vote. Early estimates reported that Trump garnered 45% of the Latino vote, which makes up over 14% of the electorate. The last record Latino turnout for a Republican candidate was when former President George Bush swept 44% of the Latino vote in 2004. At the time, they only made up 8% of eligible voters.

“They want solutions,” Cotton said of this new electorate for the Republican Party. “They want prices down. They want our border secure. They want America to be strong and respected in the world once again.”

Cotton has denied that he would accept any cabinet position, and instead promised to enforce Trump’s day one promises, which include solutions to immigration, high taxes, and U.S. energy dependence. He expressed his excitement to help in a wide array of issues.
