AHMEDABAD- A delegation from Boeing Corporation, the multinational American company renowned for designing, manufacturing, and distributing aircraft worldwide, recently concluded its inspection at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad (AMD).
Well-informed sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the purpose of the visit is to evaluate the airport’s suitability for their upcoming aircraft, the Boeing 777X.
Boeing 777X at Ahmedabad
The Boeing 777X, scheduled for debut in 2025, is touted as the world’s largest twin-engine jet. With advancements in aerodynamics and engines, the 777X is projected to offer a 10% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions and a 10% decrease in operating costs compared to competitors, as stated on Boeing Corporation’s official website.
Besides being one of the most efficient aircraft in the aviation industry, the Boeing 777X features an innovative folding wingtip, enabling the aircraft to fold its wings during taxiing. This feature ensures its compatibility with all airports currently served by Boeing 777s.
“The assessment visit by the Boeing team underscores the potential of the city’s airport to be among the first in India to witness the operation of a Boeing 777X soon after its official launch and integration with airlines,” the source informed TOI.
“This development underscores Ahmedabad’s potential to emerge as a prominent aviation hub within India. The introduction of the 777X has the potential to establish new flight routes and connections for passengers, thus fostering the city’s economic advancement and enhancing its global connectivity,” the source elaborated.
Compatibility Check at Airports
The SVPI airport in Ahmedabad has been included in the initial list for compatibility assessment of the Boeing 777X.
“The team of officials conducted primary inspections and thorough evaluations of the runway and airport operations, particularly focusing on the airside, to gain technical insights. The team expressed satisfaction with the operational standards at the city airport,” the source further clarified.
The 777X left its mark on Indian soil with a spectacular debut at Wings India 2024, which took place in Hyderabad earlier this year.
