Apple will be celebrating LGBTQ+ communities around the world with an exclusive new Apple Watch band launching on May 22, and other surprises.
June is Pride Month, and Apple has just announced all the ways it will honor LGBTQ+ communities around the world. Apple has always been an inclusive workplace but didn’t celebrate Pride Month until Tim Cook came out as gay in 2018.
How is Apple celebrating Pride 2024?
According to the Apple Newsroom announcement, the company will release a matching watch face and dynamic wallpapers for iPhone and iPad aside from the Pride-themed watch strap. For the first time ever, you’ll be able to customize the new watch face and wallpapers to showcase a spectrum of colors you choose.
1. Pride Edition Braided Solo Loop for Apple Watch
The vibrant design of the Pride Edition Braided Solo Loop for Apple Watch was inspired by rainbow-colored pride flags. The exclusive $99 watch strap features a laser-etched lug that reads “PRIDE 2024.”
Apple says the black and brown colors symbolize Black, Hispanic and Latin communities, as well as people impacted by HIV/AIDS. As for the pink, light blue and white, those hues represent transgender and nonbinary individuals.
You can purchase this band for $99 beginning May 22 from Apple’s website, the official Apple Store app, and the company’s retail locations in the United States starting May 22 (May 23 in Canada and other regions). It fits 41mm and 45mm sizes of the Apple Watch SE and AppleSeries 4 models and later.
2. Animated “Pride Radiance” watch face
The new Pride Radiance watch face has a matching design featuring a neon-like retro font set against a dark background, but you can change the colors if you like. This is the first time Apple has allowed customizing wallpaper colors.
The colors trace each numeral and react to wrist movement in real-time. The “Pride Radiance” watch face will be available with watchOS 10.5. You can also download it through the Apple Watch and Apple Store apps or at apple.com.
3. Animated “Pride Radiance” wallpapers
As for the” Pride Radiance” wallpaper for iOS and iPadOS, it features beams of color that spell out the word “Pride” and animate when you unlock the device.
“Users can choose from a spectrum of colors to personalize their watch face and wallpapers,” says the iPhone maker. The new “Pride Radiance” is included in the iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 software updates launching later this month.
