Couple Wanted Dog Put Down Because He Barked Excessively

When we invite dogs into our families, we vow to provide them with all the affection and patience they deserve. It’s disheartening that some owners hastily abandon their pets, not allowing them enough time to adapt to new surroundings and ultimately hurting their pets emotionally. Marcus, a two-year-old a Patterdale Terrier-Lab Mix, experienced profound disappointment when his owners decided to give him up simply because he barked at people and other dogs. Lucie Holmes, founder of Lucie’s Animal Rescue, was taken aback by the reason since barking is a natural form of canine communication.

Marcus had been with his family for only five weeks, a period during which he desperately needed their support to settle into his new environment. Regrettably, instead of providing the needed support, his owners chose to give up on him. They even sought to euthanize him due to his behavior without making any effort to train him or help him adjust.

When Marcus’ owners initially reached out to surrender him, the rescue center was full, so Holmes asked them to wait until space became available. However, later that day, Holmes received a startling call from a veterinarian. Marcus’ owners had requested the vet euthanize him. The veterinarian refused, suggesting behavioral therapy instead, which the owners declined.

Concerned for Marcus’ well-being, Holmes intervened, assuring the owners she would make room for him at her rescue center. Upon arrival, Marcus was understandably nervous but soon settled in and began to enjoy the company of six other dogs, showing his happiness by wagging his tail and playfully barking at his new friends.

Holmes observed that Marcus’ bark was merely his way of expressing joy and eagerness to interact with others. Her intervention not only saved Marcus but also provided him with the acceptance and love he lacked previously. Numerous adoption applications have already been submitted for him, and it is only a matter of time before he finds a forever home where he will be cherished and understood. Until then, Marcus will continue to flourish, surrounded by kind people who only want him to live his best life! Bark on, Marcus. Bark on!
