Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy has rolled out its latest promotion for stays through to the end of the year. This promotion, which has the highest bonus offered to date, affords members with Marriott Bonvoy Elite status 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per eligible stay.
If you have any group stays planned between May 6 and December 31, 2024, you can potentially pad your Bonvoy balance by opting for a stay, or multiple stays, in Marriott’s version of home rentals instead of a hotel.
What Is Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy?
The Marriott International hotel chain offers a curated selection of over 100,000 vacation rentals around the globe, in addition to its portfolio of hotel properties.
Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, which is Marriott’s answer to compete with Airbnb, launched in 2019, and tends to focus on higher-end rentals in each regional market.
The home rental program allows Marriott loyalists to experience unique accommodations with an elevated travel experience as an alternative to the traditional portfolio of Marriott hotels. At the same time, you still have the opportunity to earn and redeem Bonvoy points.
Staying with Marriott Homes & Villas earns elite qualifying nights towards your Marriott Bonvoy status, so it’s always worth checking the Homes & Villas platform if you’re in the mood to book a vacation rental instead of a hotel for an upcoming trip.
Just like Airbnbs, the Homes & Villas properties are run by individual owners or management companies and not by Marriott; instead, the rentals are simply stamped with the promise to deliver the same standards you can expect while staying at a Marriott property.
Stay Two Nights, Get 50,000 Bonvoy Points
Marriott Homes & Villas has come up with quite a few promotions since its launch; however, only a select few have been particularly compelling.
To be eligible for the current promotion, you’ll first need to sign in and register on the landing page between now and May 10, 2024. You also must have any elite status tier with Marriott Bonvoy, including Silver, Gold, Platinum, Titanium, or Ambassador.
Then, you need to book a stay of at least two consecutive nights worth at least $2,500 (USD) or the equivalent in foreign currency.
Stays must be booked between now and 11:59pm Eastern Time on May 10, 2024; however, your check-out dates can be anytime between May 6 and December 31, 2024.
There’s no limit to how many times you can earn 50,000 points with this promotion, and the bonus points will be awarded between three and six weeks following the successful completion of an eligible stay.
Award stays aren’t eligible for this promotion, and neither are stays booked at any Marriott-branded hotels, Marriott Executive Apartments, or Marriott Participating Brand Residences that may be available on the Homes & Villas platform.
This latest promotion is worth considering if you have a group stay planned between now and the end of the year, and you’re considering booking a home instead of a hotel.
It’s worth noting that this is the biggest bonus ever offered through Homes & Villas, though it’s also worth mentioning that the minimum spending requirement is higher than usual.
How to Maximize the Marriott Homes & Villas Promotion
With a fixed amount of 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points awarded for eligible stays, you’ll get the best return by booking stays of as close to $2,500 (USD) as possible.
We value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.8 cents per point (CAD) or 0.6 cents per point (USD); hence, we’d value 50,000 points at $400 (CAD) or $300 (USD).
Using this valuation, if you were to spend exactly $2,500 (USD), you’d be looking at about a 12% return in points with the promotion alone.
For stays booked in currencies other than US dollars, you may want to err on the side of caution and book a stay for slightly above the threshold, to account for any currency conversion fluctuations that may bring your stay to less than $2,500 (USD).
As per usual, you’ll still earn base points on your stay, as well as elite qualifying nights and bonus points as a Marriott Bonvoy elite member.
If you pay for the transaction with a Marriott Bonvoy co-branded credit card, you’ll also earn points for your Homes & Villas booking.
For example, if you book at a Marriott Homes & Villas property, for every US dollar spent, you can earn:
- 5 base points as a Marriott Bonvoy member
- Bonus points for having Marriott Bonvoy Elite status:
- Points earned for using a Marriott Bonvoy credit card:
For a stay of exactly $2,500 (USD), you could earn up to 14.75 points per US dollar spent, or a total of up to 36,875 Marriott Bonvoy points: 5 base points, 3.75 points as a Titanium or Ambassador Elite member, and 6 points by paying with an eligible US-issued co-branded credit card.
When combined with the points earned from the current promotion, you’d be looking at a total of up to 86,875 points on a stay of exactly $2,500 (USD), which is equal to an effective return of around 21% in the form of points. Of course, this number would vary if the total cost of your stay is greater than $2,500 (USD).
Again, while it’s not worthwhile to pursue this promotion solely for the bonus points, if you were going to otherwise make a booking for a home rental, at least you’d end up with a tidy sum of points for your efforts.
Conclusion
Marriott’s vacation home rental brand, Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, has put out a new promotion, through which Marriott Bonvoy Elite members can earn 50,000 bonus points for each eligible stay of two consecutive nights or more. To qualify for the bonus, the total cost of your stay needs to be at least $2,500 (USD).
This promotion could be a good opportunity to try out a non-traditional Marriott experience on your 2024 travels, while earning a good chunk of bonus points and also obtaining elite qualifying nights towards Marriott Bonvoy elite status.
If you’re keen on taking advantage of the promotion, be sure to register and make your minimum two-night booking of at least $2,500 (USD) from May 2—10, 2024, for stays through December 31, 2024.
