Last month, Marvel announced that the new X-Men relaunch, “From the Ashes,” that follows the Fall of the Krakoan Age of the X-Men, will center on three “core” X-Men titles, X-Men by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman, Uncanny X-Men by Gail Simone and David Marquez, and Exceptional X-Men by Eve Ewing and Carmen Carnero. Now, Marvel is revealing more details about the first of the “core” books to be released, as Cyclops leads a revolutionary new X-Men team in MacKay and Stegman’s X-Men #1.
Cyclops new team (which will be based in Alaska) will consist of Beast, Magneto, Psylocke, Magik, Kid Omega, Temper (the hero formerly known as Oya), and Juggernaut, but the most important part of the new series is the different approach that Cyclops will be taking to mutant-human relations in the wake of the fall of both Krakoa, and of Orchis (the evil anti-mutant organization that caused the Fall of Krakoa).
Marvel Teases Three New X-Men Series
Marvel has released new teasers for three upcoming titles that will be launching as part of the X-Men: From the Ashes linewide relaunch
How are the X-Men different post Krakoa?
One of the central points of the Krakoan Age was that the X-Men were more powerful than ever, as they had the whole nation of Krakoa behind them. It was hard to mess with the X-Men when they were their own country, but now that that is gone, the X-Men are more vulnerable than ever.
Therefore, Cyclops has put together a team of some of the most powerful X-Men so that they can serve as a force that can protect mutants now that Krakoa is gone, and take care of mutant-centric threats before they cause problems for the other mutants that are now spread out, and without the central protection of Krakoa. Essentially, this team is designed to be powerful enough that while humans can hate them if thet want to, they won’t mess with them, and that’s good enough for Cyclops at the moment, as he is just trying to figure everything out on the fly.

What do Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman have to say about the new X-Men series?
Something that comes up a lot in the “From the Ashes” discussion is how the X-Men are now being forced to interact with the rest of the world, and MacKay references that, as well, in what he said to Marvel in its press release for the relaunch, “Taking on the X-Men is always a daunting prospect, but I’m extremely psyched to take this team of mutants back into the world with Ryan!”
For his part, Stegman noted, “When I first got into comics, drawing X-Men was THE job you wanted as an artist. To have the opportunity now is mind-blowing.”
X-Men #1 is scheduled to be released on July 10th, kicking “From the Ashes” off.
