An X-Men Icon is Marvel’s Worst Vampire Hunter

Marvel’s Blood Hunt has dragged an X-Men fan-favorite right back into the middle of the blood-soaked horror she spent so many years trying to escape.

X-Men: Blood Hunt – Jubilee #1 finds the titular hero cruising through the outskirts of New York City on her motorcycle while headed straight for a pack of hungry vampires in the middle of claiming yet another innocent victim. Surprisingly, Jubilee isn’t nearly as quick to fight these supernatural horrors off as she is to try and calm them with her words, although none of them are particularly eager to debate the merits of giving up human blood.

Jubilation Lee, better known as Jubilee, made her Marvel Comics debut back in the pages of 1989’s Uncanny X-Men #244 by writer Chris Claremont and artist Marc Silvestri. In her initial outing, Jubilee was using her mutant powers to generate localized light shows in the hopes of garnering tips from passers-by. Instead, Jubilee brought the attention of the mutant hunting M-Squad down upon herself, necessitating a hasty rescue courtesy of the X-Men.

In the years that followed, Jubilee became a prominent member of the X-Men, frequently teaming up with Wolverine. After more than two decades spent fighting alongside her fellow mutant heroes, Jubilee was caught in a devastating attack carried out by vampire terrorists in the pages of 2010’s X-Men #1 by writer Victor Gischler and artist Paco Medina. After being dowsed in vampiric blood, Jubilee’s transformation soon took hold, kicking off a dark, years-long saga for the young mutant.

Jubilee would go on to join and train with the vampiric super team known as the Forgiven, who taught her to control her infectious hunger and shed her innate weakness to sunlight. During a battle with Marius St. Croix, better known as Emplate, Jubilee lost the medallion that protected her from the sun’s rays, putting her in a truly dire situation. Thankfully, her teammate Quentin Quire was able to come to her rescue. By sacrificing his own remnants of the Phoenix Force, Quentin not only saved Jubilee’s life, he also cured the vampiric infection within her, stripping her of many powers but returning her humanity all the same.

X-Men: Blood Hunt – Jubilee #1 is on sale June 12 from Marvel Comics.
