Telegram emerges as Web3 game platform with 21% of Web3 game launches | Game7

Telegram has emerged as a key development platform for Web3 games, capturing 21% of new Web3 game launches this year, according to a report by Game7.

Game7 said its report examines examines over 2,500 blockchain games, 1,500 funding rounds, and 100 blockchain ecosystems, revealing significant shifts in the Web3 gaming landscape.

The report said the surge in gaming-focused chains continues to outpace game development, with 104 new blockchain networks announced through Q3 2024, alongside 252 new game announcements. But those new Web3 game announcements are down 36% compared to 2023.

Immutable has positioned itself as the leading blockchain gaming ecosystem with 181 announced titles (71% YoY growth), while Arbitrum achieved 68% YoY growth to 119 titles, largely driven by the Orbit Framework which powered 23 new Web3 gaming networks.

“As we approach 2025, the crypto and Web3 gaming ecosystem is poised to make a significant impact,” said George Isichos, core contributor to Game7, in a message to GamesBeat. “Our research aims to equip stakeholders across all chains, genres, and platforms with the insights needed to cut through the noise and focus on the most promising opportunities for the year ahead. At Game7, we want to make a difference, not only by providing crucial research but also by working hand in hand with the best teams willing to tackle the most exciting challenges through our developer program.”

Asia Pacific teams have added 39% of new Web3 games in 2024, followed by the U.S. with 36%, though U.S.-based teams still account for 27% of total Web3 games.

And Game7 said a critical “playability gap” persists. Analysis shows that only 45% of Web3 games are in a playable state, with just 34% having integrated blockchain technology.

Game7’s analysis focuses on developer activity and ecosystem infrastructure development as key indicators of industry growth, providing objective and reliable insights.
