The popularity of Prime Video’s Fallout TV series is seemingly driving people back to the Fallout games, and one title in particular, Fallout 76, just reached its highest player count ever on Steam. If you’re enjoying the Fallout TV show and interested in Fallout 76, you might be wondering what shape the game is in and how it plays in 2024, given it first released all the way back in 2018.
As you may recall, Fallout 76 had a rocky launch all those years ago, and longtime Fallout fans felt like they got something that didn’t live up to Fallout’s legacy. Bethesda owned up to the game’s issues and shortcomings, and since then has steadily supported the online multiplayer game with more than a dozen major updates, the latest being the Atlantic City update in March.
Fallout 76 has reached more than 17 million people to become one of Bethesda’s most popular games ever. With all of this in mind, GameSpot’s Dave Klein jumped into the world of Fallout 76 for the first time to see if the game is worth playing for someone new to the series. Check out the video below to see a newcomer’s take on the game and get a glimpse at how far the game has come since it was originally released in 2018.
If Fallout 76 doesn’t seem interesting to you, Bethesda is also working on Fallout 5, but it’s not going to be released until after The Elder Scrolls VI.
If you do decide to visit the Fallout 76 wasteland, the game just recently added content based on the show. Fallout Shelter players on mobile can grab content themed around the TV series, too. Additionally, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are free right now for Prime subscribers through Luna and Fallout 4’s long-awaited PS5/Xbox Series X|S update is finally coming soon.
