A Heavy Theoretical Battle | ChessBase

The 7th Sharjah Masters-Challengers-Futures (three sections as per rating) annual event of the Sharjah Emirate, United Arab Emirates, is under way: 14-23.05.2024. During the previous three editions I was acting as the organising force behind it, but this year I am not involved in the organisation, so I decided to play, mostly for fun! I was just eligible for the Challengers, as due to age and some health problems, I have dropped quite a few points!

In the first round I faced a 15-years-old Indian junior and I thought I would have more or less an easy game, with an expected win. My opponent entered a heavy theoretical battle, and although he faced some difficulties, he defended quite well, giving little chance to hope for the full point.

Well Indian boys (and girls!) are coming from everywhere and with their working attitude and resistance, they should go even further! I believe that very soon we will have a second dynasty of World Champions from India, following the dynasty of the Soviet Union!

Here’s my game against the young Indian talent [click on the moves to get a replayer]:
