In the Black Clover universe, the most powerful characters in the series tend to be the captains of Clover Kingdom’s Magic Knight squads. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given Clover Kingdom’s focus on promoting their most powerful mages to the highest statuses. That said, it isn’t always the case, either.
The nature of shonen anime means that even the most powerful characters are meant to be challenged. As Black Clover got into later seasons, there were plenty of characters who were just as strong or stronger than the Captains. With Black Clover finding a new home on Netflix, fans might want a refresher on some of the most powerful non-Captains in that universe.

New arcs have introduced more powerful heroes and villains alike, and most of them have nothing to do with Clover Kingdom’s Magic Knight Captains. The Ryuzen Seven alone seem capable of giving the Magic Knight Captains a run for their money. This list has been updated to add even more powerful Black Clover characters that aren’t captains.

Ginnojomorifuyu’s spot in the Ryuzen Seven can be hard to believe at first, as most of the time she’s terrified of combat. Once she draws her sword though, she goes into a berserker rage, eager to slice anything she can. It can be tricky for opponents, granting her a surprise edge they might not see coming.
In battle, Ginnojomorifuyu relies on the power of Snow Magic. Her special technique specifically is Silver Fox in Blood-Eyed Robes, which causes her to pull Snow Magic into her own body. With that power, she becomes more foxlike in appearance, making her attacks more fierce. She’s also capable of freezing herself and her surroundings, which came in handy when she was battling a mind-controlled Lily Aquaria.
14 Komari Imari Brings Levity To The Ryuzen Seven
Magic: Lightning Magic
Komari is the spunky ninja of the Ryuzen Seven who inexplicably has a gyaru fashion sense. Despite being in a serious situation, Komari still tries to approach everything with a happy mood. She’s one of the members of the Ryuzen Seven in charge of helping Asta train during the brief period he was in the Hino Country. Admittedly, this mostly looks like them beating him senseless.
Like the other members of the Ryuzen Seven, Komari can use the power of Zetten to unleash massive bursts of power. Like Luck, she relies on the power of Lightning Magic. Her secret technique is the Diamond Yasha Princess – Five Fold Dance, where she channels the power of lightning to increase her speed and attacks with kunai daggers made of pure lightning energy.
13 Ichika Yami’s Incredible Strength Proves How Similar She Is To Her Brother
Magic: Dark Magic
One of the first people Asta meets in the Hino Country is Ichika, Yami Sukehiro’s sister. Much like her older brother, Ichika is a talented swordswoman and prone to getting violent when annoyed. Ichika is one of the Ryuzen Seven, a group that serves directly under Hino Country’s shogun and is responsible for protecting both their leader and their land.
When readers meet Ichika, she’s already strong enough to knock out Asta at full power. Though Asta has his Anti-Magic form, Ichika relies on the power of Zetten to let her unleash all her power in a single hit to knock out an enemy. She’s also a master of Dark Magic, allowing her to either cloak herself or attack with pure dark magic energy.
12 Yosuga Musyogatake Is Strongest Of The Ryuzen Seven
Magic: Iron Magic
The most powerful of the Ryuzen Seven, Yosuga was in line to become Shogun of the Hino Country because of his talent and power. While his rival Ryuya Ryudo became Shogun, Yosuga continued to put his power to use serving the country. His confidence in his abilities allows him to succeed no matter the battle conditions, even damaging Asta’s anti-magic form.
Yosuga was one of the last members to train with Asta, helping him to master Zetten. Yosuga’s own magic power is Iron Magic, which lets him create Iron whenever he wants. In battle, Yosuga uses his Iron Magic to cover himself in unbreakable armor he refers to as the Iron God of War, allowing him to push through any attack. With that defense paired with his own sword skills, it’s not a surprise he’s seen as the strongest Ryuzen Seven member.
11 Gadjah Is The Protector Of The Queen Of The Heart Kingdom
Magic: Lightning Magic
Gadjah’s introduction came when the team were summoned to the Heart Kingdom. He operates as a bodyguard for the queen of the Heart Kingdom, Lolopechka, who can’t fight for herself. Fortunately, she doesn’t need anyone to protect her when she has Gadjah, a Stage Zero-level mage who is the strongest of all the Heart Kingdom’s mages.
Gadjah’s Lighting Magic powers have done pretty well for him, too. After being introduced, he tested Noelle, Finral, and Mimosa in a three-on-one battle and easily held his own. He was later responsible for training one of the strongest Black Bull members, Luck, teaching him how to upgrade his own Lightning Magic.
10 Patolli Became Leader Of The Elves
Magic: Light Magic, Creation Magic
Originally known as Licht, Patolli was the leader of the Eye of the Midnight Sun, the organization that threatened Clover Kingdom throughout the first half of the series. In one of his earliest appearances, Patolli established how dangerous he was by fighting Yami Sukehiro nearly to a standstill. Considering Yami might be the strongest of Clover Kingdom’s Captains, it forced the rest of the Magic Knights to take note of his strength.
Later on, Patolli unleashed even more of his power in his fight against the Wizard King in one of the best episodes of the series. Despite Julius wielding the incredible power of Time Magic, Patolli’s superior planning allowed him to walk away the victor. Even later, he experienced a boost in power as he allowed Zagred’s magic to overtake him, nearly finishing off both Yuno and Asta until Nozel saved them both.
9 Vanica Seeks The Toughest Opponents
Magic: Curse-Warding Magic, Blood Magic
Another of the Zogratis siblings, Vanica is arguably more dangerous than her brothers. While they might be more powerful, Vanica actively looks to start fights with people and specifically likes fighting strong opponents. She’s willing to do anything to bring the most out of an enemy, even kidnapping or harming their loved ones.

Vanica relies on two types of magic. Her main offensive magic is blood magic, where she can create and manipulate blood, turning it into weapons as necessary. Her other special ability is Curse-Warding magic, which she can use to inflict harmful curses on her enemies for her amusement. Vanica used this power on Noelle’s mother, Acier during their battle, proving that she’s willing to fight dirty if she has to.

The Witch Queen is a woman so powerful she wields her own lands that most Magic Knights dread going near. Those she likes the most, she keeps as slaves… or pets, a fate that Vanessa was barely lucky enough to escape.
As expected of the Witch Queen, she wields multiple forms of magic, including healing magic, creation magic, and blood magic. Her healing magic is the most powerful in the land, capable of removing powerful curses. Her blood magic is terrifying, as she can control anyone she likes with it, taking over Asta’s body at one. She was definitely one of Black Clover’s strongest villains, and it’s a good thing the main cast were able to convince her to stop.
7 Dante Seeks Enough Power To Make The World Embrace Their Humanity

One of the twisted members of the Zogratis family, Dante’s ultimate goal is to get humanity to give into all their negative emotions and evil. To achieve that goal, he’s attained incredible power by bonding with Lucifero. Though he’s only in a few episodes at the end of the series, it’s obvious he’s got strength equal or exceeding a Magic Knight Captain. To begin with, he manages to assault the Black Bulls home base and nearly wipe out all of them.
Later on, he battles against both Asta and Yami at the same time, and only loses because Asta takes power directly from Liebe for a partial devil union. It’s not surprising to see him be so difficult to defeat though, given his incredible Gravity Magic powers. By drawing on Lucifero’s power, he can even obliterate mountains with his “Gravity Singularity” spell – easily one of the most ridiculous spells in Black Clover.
6 Noelle Silva Relies On Tough Training To Hone Her Abilities

Noelle is arguably the best example of character development Black Clover has. When she was introduced, she couldn’t control her magic at all – any spell she cast would always miss its target. Noelle has an affinity towards Water Magic, and her constant battles alongside her allies allowed her to develop at a rapid pace. Originally a Captain himself, Julius’ impressive feats earned him the position that every Magic Knight Captain desires: the role of the Wizard King. Most of the series shows him joking around, but anytime he uses his power it’s something to fear.
Early on in the series, Julius rescues Asta from some Eye of the Midnight Sun members, turning them to dust in a matter of seconds. Julius’ Time Magic doesn’t seem to have any limits to it – he wasn’t even killed in his battle with Patolli. Instead, he revealed the ability to save himself by expending a bunch of “saved” time at once, turning himself into a child again.

Introduced near the end of the series, Nacht is the Vice Captain of the Black Bulls. From House Faust, Nacht was a troublemaker who worked along with Yami until a devil summoning ritual went wrong and killed his entire family. After that, Nacht’s personality changed, as he decided to devote himself to taking down unjust evil in the world.
Nacht’s natural power is Shadow Magic, but that’s not the focal point of his abilities. His true power is his Unite Mode, which allows him to briefly merge with the four devils he summoned as a teenager. Each one grants him different abilities alongside strength and speed. In the end, his power is vital in bringing down the Dark Triad and rescuing his old friend and troublemaking buddy, Yami Sukehiro.

With his incredible power, Lucius seeks to rule over all of humanity by forcibly remaking their bodies to make them immortal.
As seemingly the last villain of the series, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Lucius is almost unfairly powerful. He wields Soul Magic, which lets him manipulate the souls of humans and devils alike. His fusion with Astaroth and Julius grants him Time Magic, allowing him to alter time how he pleases. Meanwhile, he gained the powers of Blood, Bone, and Body magic from absorbing the powers of his fellow Zogratis siblings. As if that wasn’t enough, he gained Gravity Magic after Lucifero was defeated. Honestly, the character is almost too strong and the only reason anyone has a chance is because of Asta’s anti-magic powers.

For a long time, Asta had no chance at achieving his goal. Born without access to any magic at all, he spent years training the only thing he could: his body. Fortunately, it was exactly what he needed when he attained his true power: the anti-magic of his five-leaf grimoire. Wielding that power plus the blades that emerge from his grimoire, Asta can even the playing field between him and anyone he faces in battle.
