The Boruto series is filled to the brim with exciting plot points that keep fans guessing, but there are a few things that keep fans coming back to Boruto, such as expectations and the promise of answers to burning questions. The easiest way to keep an audience coming back and engaged with a literary work is an unresolved plot point or promised event, such as Boruto and Kawaki’s final battle, for instance. Boruto has prided itself on creating questions to eventually answer and, while it sometimes forgets, the overall wait is worth it.
From forgotten characters to fated events, some of the most compelling plot points in Boruto have yet to be resolved and therein lies the heart of good storytelling. A balance of questions and answers will not only keep an audience engaged, but hooked. The only risk is keeping fans on the line for too long before it snaps under the weight of expectations. If Boruto is to succeed as a worthy successor to Naruto, it must stay true to fans and answer some burning questions in the near future.
10 Original Characters Becoming Relevant Again
The Original Naruto Cast is Forgotten
In a story about the next generation, the previous generation can be easily forgotten, but Boruto is a continuation of a larger story, not a self-contained narrative. Sure, the focus is largely on Boruto and his friends, but the core cast of Naruto is still around and kicking, but has hardly been explored. In fact, the vast majority of legacy characters have been completely forgotten at best and, at worst, purposely nerfed and hidden away in favor of a fresh, new, less interesting cast. That’s not to say that the Boruto cast isn’t interesting, however, just that the original Naruto cast has quite a lot of history carrying its characters compared to the newer generation.

Every Main Character’s Age in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
Two Blue Vortex starts after a three-year time skip, with many characters having changed either their appearance or attitudes in unexpected ways.
While the vast majority of the Konoha 12 is largely irrelevant in the narrative, certain characters such as Shikamaru and Ino have taken center stage now that Naruto is missing from the Hokage chair. While the narrative’s focus on legacy characters is always appreciated, some more love needs to be given to the characters that made Naruto so special to begin with, and hopefully, the story will continue shining light on such beloved legacy characters moving forward. Either way, Boruto will succeed or fail with how it treats its large cast of characters and balances a healthy mix of new and old.
9 Himawari Becoming the Greatest Jinchuriki
Himawari and Kurama’s Partnership
Himawari is the new jinchuriki on the block. Not only is she seemingly more power as a jinchuriki than even Naruto, she has more compatibility with Kurama than any other former jinchuriki to date. Her progress as a shinobi will inevitably surpass her peers and even her father when all’s said and done. She may have just become Kurama’s newest partner, but she managed to hold off and even damage Jura after just awakening her powers. It took Naruto almost eighteen years to partner with Kurama and master his abilities, but Himwari has taken to her new role with considerable ease. It’s now just a matter of witnessing Himawari develop into a proper shinobi and by the end of the series, it’s safe to say she might just be one of the strongest characters in the entire cast.
Himawari’s progress as a jinchuriki is hard to measure without comparing her to Naruto, considering he didn’t really utilize and master Kurama’s chakra until the very end of the 4th Great Shinobi War. That being said, while it may be difficult to compare them individually, it’s easy to measure how long it took Naruto to master Kurama’s abilities and compare that to Himawari’s growth. By the time Naruto returns, he might just discover Himawari already surpassing him. Either way, by the end of Boruto, Himawari is sure to become a fan favorite.
8 Momoshiki’s Awakening and Otsutsuki Lore
The Otsutsuki Clan’s Downfall
Momoshiki hasn’t been awfully vocal since the end of the original Boruto storyline. Since Two Blue Vortex, he hasn’t said a word to Boruto, but Momoshiki’s awakening is bound to happen sooner or later and when it does, the plot may just be flipped on its head, as Boruto will struggle for control of his own body and Momoshiki may find a way to revive himself if not outright take control of Boruto, if only temporarily. But, Momoshiki’s return will usher in a new swath of Otsutsuki lore, as the clan doesn’t exactly have the most information, considering how important it is in the narrative.
Ever since Kaguya’s revival, the Otsutsuki Clan has taken center stage as the primary antagonists in the Naruto universe, but hardly anything is known about the wider Otsutsuki Clan and their objections other than destroying entire worlds for personal power. Not exactly the most compelling or original motivation for a group of villains. That being said, while the Otsutsuki Clan is in desperate need of more lore, considering the ramifications of Shibai Otsutsuki’s existence, only time will tell if the alien clan will become a larger threat or fade into obscurity once Boruto finally settles things with Momoshiki.
7 The God Trees Inevitable Defeat
Jura and Code’s Future
Jura has been making great strides at strengthening the God Trees’ position as world-ending threats. With Gaara’s defeat and Ryu being the newest introduction to the roster, the God Trees have only become more powerful with every major character they consume. Currently, the God Trees stand as the greatest antagonists in the series to date, but they are hardly the main villains of Boruto. The focus has always been about the Otsutsuki Clan and the God Trees hardly compare to Momoshiki Otsutsuki as antagonists.

Jura’s Plans in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 15, Explained
Chapter 15 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex reveals the demented Jura has shady plans that involve a scary new alliance and a ton of deceit on his part.
Code, however, has suffered humiliation after humiliation on his endless quest to kill Boruto, but he’s hardly a major threat anymore. Sure, he’s extremely strong compared to the vast majority of shinobi, but Boruto has continually raised the stakes and power creep to absurd levels and compared to some other characters, Code just doesn’t make the cut anymore as a top five villain. That being said, Jura, the God Trees, and Code will inevitably be defeated in one way or another and once they are removed from the plot, the real antagonist may just reveal themselves.
6 Sumire’s Hidden Potential Against Omnipotence
Sumire and Sarada’s Immunity Must be Explained
Ever since Eida used Omnipotence to rewrite reality, Sumire and Sarada’s resistance to Eida’s power has created a looming question that must eventually be answered. A lot of mysteries in the Boruto franchise are often set up and seemingly forgotten as the story focuses on other major plot points, but Sumire and Sarada’s immunity is almost a plot-hole if it doesn’t get answered soon. For an all-encompassing shinjutsu with the ability to completely rewrite reality, it’s quite a surprise when two characters seemingly have the ability to not be affected by such an overpowered jutsu.
Apart from Momoshiki’s vague warning of suffering awaiting Sumire and Sarada, there’s little current explanation and, hopefully, it will be answered in a compelling, but most importantly, believable manner. Either way, Sumire in particular is noteworthy considering she has yet to truly come into her own as a shinobi, with the Boruto narrative taking every chance it can get to allude to Sumire’s hidden potential. Like Sarada, Sumire’s potential has yet to manifest in the narrative, but they’re only going to get more important moving forward.
5 Eida’s Omnipotence Being Undone
Eida Will Undo her Reality-Changing Power
Eida’s Omnipotence has earned the title as the strongest, most broken ability in all of Naruto. Not only does it rival the Infinite Tsukuyomi as a reality-changing genjutsu, it surpasses it as Omipotence affects not only the planet, but the entire dimension. And don’t forget, Omnipotence is extremely nerfed to even allow it in the narrative. The only reason Eida hasn’t conquered the world yet is because of author intervention. All that is to say, that while Omnipotence is truly a broken ability, it has enough weaknesses or counters to eventually be negated or even undone once Boruto and Kawaki settle things.

Rebooting Boruto is the Only Way to Fix The Anime
The Boruto anime has been seen by many as a disappointment, but a remake that accurately adapts the manga might be a way to correct its course.
The question isn’t if or when, but how. It’s a given that Omnipotence must be undone in some way for the story to conclude properly, and it’s likely that it will be undone close to the end of the story if not sooner. But, how exactly will Omnipotence be reverted? It’s already been stated by Momoshiki and Eida herself that it would be easier to cast Omnipotence again to overwrite the previous version than it would be to undo the current shinjutsu. How Omnipotence is undone is a question that can only be answered by the Boruto narrative itself, but it’s safe to say that reality isn’t quite done being rewritten.
4 Naruto and Sasuke’s Return
Naruto Will Reclaim the Hokage Seat
Naruto and Hinata are sealed away in an alternate dimension and Sasuke’s been consumed by a tree for the sake of plot. It’s no secret that the Boruto franchise has taken delight in removing legacy characters from the narrative and no case is more prevalent than Naruto and Sasuke quite literally being taken out of the plot for Boruto’s growth. Eventually, the story will be forced to bring back the two most important characters in the franchise, but just like Eida’s Omnipotence, it’s only a question of when. Considering the God Trees have taken special interest in both Naruto and Sasuke, their return might be sooner than anticipated.
Boruto and Kawaki have finally joined forces to face the God Trees and if there’s one thing the two brothers care more about than fighting each other, it’s protecting their parents and mentors. Eventually, no matter the case, Naruto and Sasuke will return in a big way and when that day arrives, Naruto will reclaim his seat as the Seventh Hokage, but there’s always the chance the narrative decides to rewrite Naruto into a different character entirely. Either way, fans eagerly await the two most important characters’ return.
3 Boruto’s Mysterious Jogan
The Forgotten Power of Boruto
The author may have forgotten, but fans haven’t. Ever since Boruto awakened a mysterious eye akin to the byakugan, fans have speculated around the Jogan’s powers and reason for existing in the first place. It’s not exactly ever been mentioned before Boruto, so the Jogan is either a dojutsu unique to Boruto Uzumaki or it has further implications surrounding the Otsutsuki Clan and the Sage of Six Paths’ chakra. With Naruto being Asura’s reincarnation and Hinata hailing from the Hyuga Clan, there may just be a connection to Hagoromo after all.
Considering the rinnegan is the result of fusing Indra and Asura’s chakra together, it’s safe to say that the Jogan may be another dojutsu power related to such a legendary bloodline. The Jogan was set up to be a powerful eye that had grave implications for Boruto’s future, but besides its short relevance in the original Boruto series, the Jogan has largely been forgotten by the narrative and perhaps even the author himself. There’s still a lot of story left, so the Jogan isn’t exactly in danger of being completely forgotten, but only time will tell if the Jogan will become another legendary eye or another forgotten plot point in the history of Naruto.
2 Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingan
Sarada’s Unique Uchiha Power
The mangekyo sharingan is arguably the most iconic dojutsu in all of Naruto and each one has a unique power associated with its owner. From Itachi’s Tsukuyomi, Sasuke’s Amaterasu, and Obito’s Kamui, each mangekyo sharingan has a unique ability. Sarada’s mangekyo ability has yet to make an appearance, but the sky’s the limit in terms of what unique power she had hidden up her sleeve. Depending on her ability, Sarada may just establish herself as one of the strongest characters in Boruto. Sarada’s unique power could be anything, but it will most likely be relevant to her immunity to Omnipotence or some other type of power that allows her to negate shinjutsu.

Sarada has always wanted to be Hokage and she might be the best person for the job.
Speculation will only go so far as absolutely anything could happen, but considering Sarada’s dream of following in Naruto’s footsteps to become the next Hokage, the most likely outcome for her mangekyo sharingan will be a massive power-boost akin to Mitsuki’s Sage Transformation. Susanoo, perhaps, but beyond the legendary Uchiha ability, Sarada’s eyes will most likely be more powerful than Sasuke’s mangekyo awakening. She just doesn’t have the ability to gain the eternal mangekyo sharingan without a little assistance from the plot and Sasuke further fading into irrelevance, however.
1 Boruto and Kawaki’s Final Confrontation
The Long-Awaited Duel Between Brothers
Ever since the first episode of Boruto, the narrative has set up a climactic final battle atop the heads of the former Hokage. Brother vs. Brother is where Boruto is heading, and the only question is when. The answer is the end of the series, obviously, but the exact details surrounding Boruto and Kawaki’s fated duel are largely in the air. They have to defeat every enemy before they settle things, so Code, Jura, and the God Trees must be defeated first. If they’re still fighting, then that means that Momoshiki is still around and kicking within Boruto, so the final battle may not exactly be between brothers, but brothers vs. the last Otsutsuki.
What’s certain is that the duel will happen by the end of the series. It’s only fan speculation that Boruto and Kawaki’s duel will be the final confrontation in the series when, in reality, it may just be the prelude to the real final battle. That being said, while fans eagerly await their climactic duel, the outcome is fairly obvious. Boruto has truly outclassed Kawaki as a shinobi and, unless something drastic changes, the two brothers are hardly on an even playing field. Ultimately, while there are many things fans wish to see in Boruto’s future, the plot will decide what makes the cut or not.
