Repairing your appliances can be a tricky task,
oftentimes ending in the need for replacement. To postpone such costly
replacements, it’s important to keep your appliances clean and operating
at their optimum levels.
Fridge
Make sure to regularly clean leftovers and bad produce out
of your fridge and freezer. Nasty smells can permeate the plastic sidings of
the fridge and last for a long time, even after cleaning out the culprit. Leave
a small bowl of baking soda in your fridge to soak up any smells so your fridge
walls aren’t affected.
It’s also important to empty the fridge out completely on a
regular basis and give everything a solid wipe down as there are many crevasses
and hard to reach surfaces that can accumulate dirt.
Another trick is to make sure you’re not overloading your fridge.
The drawers and shelves can become worn-down much quicker and can even prevent the
door from sealing shut, causing the fridge compressor to overheat and shut
down.
Oven
It’s important to wipe your oven top after every use to prevent any
build-up on the burners. When cleaning, make sure not to spray cleaning
products directly onto the burners as it can cause them to short
circuit, requiring replacement. Instead, simply spray your cleaning
product onto a cloth before wiping.
Avoid using aluminium foils inside your oven as the foil is
reflective and can interfere with the internal temperature sensor, overcooking
or undercooking your food.
Dishwasher
As plumbers, we cannot stress enough how important it is to wash
off your plates before putting them in the dishwasher. Food bits clog up
dishwashers all the time, creating terrible smells and leading to a much
shorter lifespan of the unit. Although how much you want to clean your plates
before putting them in the dishwasher is up to you, the general rule is the
cleaner the plates going in, the longer your dishwasher will last.
Washing and Drying Machine
Don’t overload your washing or drying machine. Your clothes won’t
nearly be as clean since the detergent doesn’t reach every article of
clothing, and you will shorten the lifespan of the unit. It’s also
important to clean the lint screen of your dryer before every use.
Built-up lint will cause your dryer to work overtime while posing as a
serious fire hazard.
