Nintendo said its Switch 2 had the biggest game console launch of all time, with 3.5 million units sold in just four days following its June 5 debut.
Not included in the U.S. launch celebrations was Amazon, which, according to Bloomberg, saw Nintendo pull the Switch 2 and other products from the retailer due to unauthorized sales.
Bloomberg reported that Nintendo allegedly pulled its products from Amazon after discovering that third-party sellers were purchasing Nintendo products in bulk at a cheaper cost from Southeast Asia and reselling them at a lower price in the U.S.
Both companies have denied the allegations, with Tom’s Hardware reporting that they issued separate statements countering the narrative.
“There is no such fact. We do not disclose details of negotiations or contracts with retailers,” said Nintendo.
Amazon added that Bloomberg’s claims were “inaccurate,” saying that it was “pleased to offer Nintendo products directly to our customers as part of our commitment to providing an exceptional shopping experience with the widest selection possible.”
Nintendo’s Switch 2 is listed on Amazon’s websites in various markets outside of the U.S., including the U.K. and Canada. But it is missing from its U.S. platform, with Nintendo also not including Amazon as a vendor on its website.
The Switch 2 features a larger, vivid screen capable of full 1080p high-definition display (and 4K when connected to a compatible TV or monitor); a faster processor that enables enhanced graphics and gameplay performance; and redesigned magnetic Joy-Con controllers with mouse functionality.
“Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,” said Nintendo of America president and chief operating officer Doug Bowser. “We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways.”
Interestingly enough, Amazon listed the pre-order of Switch 2 title Donkey Kong Bananza on its website, with the game to be available July 17.
